You can blame the NCAA and the federal government

The NCAA because they lacked the foresight and vision to act on it and regulate it before the federal government got involved (i.e., the US Supreme Court). Then, like everything else they touch, the Fed totally ****** it up.

Justin Fields left UGA due to "racism" but his younger sister remains enrolled there playing softball. That makes about as much sense as a football bat.

As a former student-athlete...

I can tell you that I have no objection to student-athletes being paid. The problem I have with it, NIL has become the wild west and is totally unregulated. It's not that NIL is bad. The problem is, in conjunction with the transfer portal, the two are turning collegiate athletics into professional free agency.

In the case of USC tampering with the wide receiver from Pittsburg, they are guilty. But there is no one to enforce any rules.

The first thing they should do is go back to making transfers sit out a year. That would stop a lot of it. Are you really going to pay someone to just sit? The throwing NIL money at high school kids to get them to sign I don't know what to do on that one.

Even "top tier SEC teams" are in jeopardy.

Why do you think Saban is now sounding the alarm like Dabo has been doing? Alabama cannot compete with teams like USC in a market like Los Angeles. Tuscaloosa is not LA. Yes, they have history and donors. However, they don't have the sheer numbers of donors or the wealth that large market schools can generate.
Anyone that does not believe Southern Cal will become the dominant team in the next five years is not paying attention.
