The Miami Thug Boat Race of 2015

My wife and I were in Miami for the 2015 game which I believe was a pivotal moment in the Dabo era. Maybe, just as important as 4th & 16 against LSU? Miami was good. Clemson was good, but we didn't know how good yet. 35-0 Clemson at halftime and the Miami team was still ratchet jawing in full-out thug mode and some of the Clemson players responded in kind. Dabo stopped the entire team as they came off the field for halftime and set the record straight, making all players know that this is NOT who we are nor how we play and that mess stops right now! I will never forget sitting in the stands watching the team down on the field, all on one knee getting their butts chewed out and telling my wife I couldn't figure out why he was ripping the team in front of the entire stadium crowd when we were ahead 35-0. Only later did we find out what was going on after the Tigers completed the 58-0 boat race. That was the day the world was introduced to just how good Clemson Football was going to be for the next few years.

I was there as well. We had some nice Hurricane fans in front of us. They left fairly early in the 3rd quarter. As they were leaving they commented that they certainly learned how to spell Clemson that day with all the spell outs at the end of Tiger Rag.

I love that phrase but have to admit if Tigers get beat 58-0

I doubt anyone would classify my reaction as anything "classy" lol

I mean at least it would be over quickly but still, that brings back 2012 and that was only 37 point loss in one of the strangest games I can remember. Went from Clemson tying the score and at the goal line Ellington fumbles and they return it for TD, that 14 point swing completely wiped the Tigers out.

That was last time I saw Clemson give up as a team, they just could not come back from that. Much prefer the opponent give up like Miami did that day and so many other teams have to our Tigers in the 2016-2020 seasons.

That was a fun game for sure. Even the backup

players were lighting them up. I remember one defensive player layed the absolute lumber on a devastating hit and one of the announcers said something to the effect of wow, what a play but he’s not even on our call sheet so I have no idea who he is.

I'll never forget that game. That was a great thrashing! I was attached to a submarine out of Norfolk at the time and was between housing. I would sleep on the boat most of the time and go camping or stay with friends to break up the monotony. I did this to save some extra money toward paying off my truck - seemed like a great idea at the time. When I tell people about it, I jokingly refer to this as my 'homeless' period.

Anyway, I couldn't find a reliable Sportsbar in the Norfolk area that could be expected to have the game on. I prefer to watch the games either with other Tigers, or in peace. I got a room at a cheap motel just to watch the game and it was some of the best money I have spent. Ended up checking out and going out after the game with some buddies in Virginia Beach.

I remember Dabo chewing out the team at the half with the major lead. That was when I knew he wasn't going to settle for anything less than greatness.
