Am I the only person that can’t really “get into” professional golf anymore?

Just seems like all the great golf legends have either retired or past Their prime , or just kinda faded away..
I’m trying to like it but just can’t right now kind of like pro basketball
Hopefully this will change in the future

The level of talent in pro golf is incredible. There are so many great, young players now that the tournaments are a joy to watch. Watching the final round of the British Open today showed the greatness of today’s players. So many good players, so many wonderful shots. Professional golf has never been better in terms of the broadness of talent and the entertainment in watching them play.

I enjoyed today. Now, it seems that Cameron Smith (along with several others) is going to the LIV tour. Pro golf is about to be ruined over $$$$ just like college football.

Talent level is just very high. I played for years and would make about 2 out of 10 from 10 feet away. When you see someone like C Smith or Woods (in his prime - he can't make anything now) make 9 out of 10 on super tough greens under extreme pressure it's just unbelievable. Such a fine line between winning and losing with so much talent that I don't ever see another Tiger (GOAT IMO). Back during the Nicklaus and Palmer dominance there were just far fewer players capable of winning. So times have changed but with sports psychology, exercise, nutrition, full time swing coaches, and video analysis of every shot there are simply a lot of players that can get hot and win on any given Sunday. Tiger used to have an advantage by driving it long (not his only strength by far), now, they all hit it long so it just jams up the leaderboards with the winner changing week in and week out. Still enjoyable for me to watch but I do gravitate towards the players that inject some personality into the game.

Well, they still talk about Tiger Woods all the time so there is that.

This LIV deal hasn’t helped, either
I have always blamed equipment advances that mask swing flaws and bad shots and render classic courses obsolete, but I suspect it is at least partly a generational thing for me. When I was a kid learning the game, the stars were legends, and were like gods to me. Eventually, it got to be where the top players were my age, and now, probably 90% of exempt players are young enough to be my son.

he is set financially for at least a couple years, life if he has a good investment counselor. That takes away some of the competitive "hunger", I think. I don't know how else to explain guys winning one week, and then turning around and missing a cut, or several cuts in a row following it. The old time "greats" were certainly more consistent than that.
As For LIV, don't even get me started. It ain't pro golf, and leave it at that. When you have already been paid your millions before you even set foot on the course, who cares how you play?

Always wondered why they were always multiples of 9. Maybe something to do with 9/18 holes?

I have never gotten into any stage of Golf, I've never even owned a golf club of any type. But if a Clemson player is playing, and if they are up on the leader board enough to where I can get more than glimpse of them playing on the TV, I will watch them play for a little while, but it doesn't take me to long to be over it!!!
Now I have been to a course several times with friends where they will rent you the equipment to play 9 or 18 holes, but usually we just played 9 holes, and really enjoyed the two beers each break after each hole, and it wouldn't matter about how many strokes it took to finish a hole, bc we didn't keep score, and IMO, that is the best way to enjoy 9 holes of golf, with 18 hole, everybody is to drunk to be driving home!!!!

Other than college sports it's really the only pro sport that I follow. There's not a true superstar like a Tiger or Jack out there right now. These players are so talented that it's difficult to get to the top and stay there. Just watch them play from a 100 yards in and you will realize that it is talent and not equipment.

So it has made it tough for someone like Rory to be THE man.
Like nobody shot 64 on Tiger on a Sunday. There are just so many guys right now who can win. Maybe that makes it hard to watch if you’re not a hard core golf fan.

If you didn't enjoy today's epic 150th Open at The Old Course, you are not a golfer. Cam Smith made 2 great up and downs on the last 2 holes.

I love professional golf. In fact this past week I have had more comments rejected by the Yahoo Community Guidelines Guru because of comments that I made not meeting their guidelines than I have made comments here about football.
