Whats your favorite memory from Clemson?
Jul 12, 2016, 8:11 PM
|
|
It can be any memory not just football.
My brother just graduated a few years ago and we get season tickets every year. But I think my best memory was the very first game I went to. When we played wofford in 2011. I know it's not a big game but the first time I stepped foot in the Valley it was just mind blowing. Anyway I am actually applying for Clemson for next fall so I imagine if I get in I will have a plethora of great memories coming my way.

The night before the 1988 FSU game...
Jul 12, 2016, 8:20 PM
|
|
some FSU fan parked their car on Fort Hill Street near the stadium. Before the campus po-po could get there and ticket them, a group of guys decided to pick up the car and relocate it. So I joined and and help carry the car across the lawn an plopped it acros the sidewalk....basically guaranteed a towing.
The atmosphere was electric that night.

(touché) Met my wife of 30 years (so far) as well... But also a lot of other great memories in there and they are still coming. Youngest daughter graduating this past May, older daughter graduating in 2013, 16 year old son planning his path to acceptance and graduation..
And oh the wonderful memories of game day from 1981 thru 1990 as my (future) wife and and I made our way to all the games (10 years of student tickets!!!)
Walking across the stage in Littlejohn to accept my diploma was one of the highlights of my life. Receiving my degree in civil engineering and having my family there to witness it - after a delay to grow up - will always be tops for me.
And the sports, oh my the sports, and the thrill of victory - and sometimes defeat - will live with you forever.
Every time I step foot on campus (even with all the changes) I feel I am at home and with the best people on the planet.
Cannot even express in words the best times at Clemson - You Have to live them for yourself!!!
I hope yours are as memorable and precious as mine so far and those to come!

Hard to pick but one that stands out, 1977 5th ranked Notre Dame with Joe Montana beat 15th ranked Clemson with Steve Fuller 21-17. Hubs and I were on the Hill. Even though we lost it was a fab game and thrilling to the last minute.

Yep, some cat named Montana got them two late TDs, 21-17.

The Uni's in that game are what 2016 are supposed to be very similar to. Only fitting, since that was Steve Fuller's team, and DW wears #4.

Awesome first game as a student if you ask me. Been coming to games my entire life but some I will never forget are Oklahoma '15, ND '15, FSU '09, Miami '05 (even though we lost), BC '07 (another heartbreaker), and Ga Tech '06 (first time Gameday was at Clemson). Another cool moment that gave me absolute chills was when Clemson retired CJ's #28 against Maryland in 2010 (?). I loved CJ and it was cool to see that moment and I must admit, I had some tears in my eyes. Anyway, too many memories in Tiger Town to name. Sure is a special place.

The greatest campus blackout

It was either in 90 or 91. I lived in Johnstone at the time and I remember one guy spraying hair spray down the side of the hallway and then lighting it on fire and watching it spread for 100 feet. Good times. Plus we were all drunk by that time. That's a night I'll never forget.

Sliding down the fraternity hall (which had been doused in oil) with a beautiful Clemson girl. Complete chaos on the hall. Everyone laughing and taking shots. Her sleeping over. Going to Huddle House in the morning. Sleeping most of the day and then ending up on a boat on lake Hartwell at sunset with a bunch of cool Clemson girls and guys. It was close to a perfect day.

Not necessarily a favorite memory, but one that stands out. Streaking in spring of '74 and being interviewed by an Anderson radio station wearing nothing but a hat and sneakers. Answering the genius question, "what would your mother think" and turning around to see a former high school classmate (female) staring at me.
A few years ago I received a postcard from Clemson (solicitation) with a throwback theme that had a picture of a group of streakers. There I was with my back to the camera wearing that same hat, a flower picture strategically placed over my backside.

Seems I remember being counted at the Amphitheater, we held the world record for one night, maybe 9,000 or so? Think Texas had like 20,000 the next night. Funny what random bits of info you remember.

So many happy memories there.
For me, my favorite memory would not be very exciting for most. But it was defending my masters thesis. All the hard work leading up to that one moment. I was so nervous the days leading up to it......but on the day of my defense, a calm came over me. I knew that my Clemson education and the hard work I put in would ensure I would do just fine.

Can't remember her name. I'll be kicking myself for the rest of my life for not pursuing her. Wait, maybe this should go under worst memories lol. I was dating at the time, she showed a clear interest in me and I brushed her off cuz I was trying to be a good guy. The girl I was with later cheated on me...go figure.
Anyway, this girl was a bombshell. She had the body of a goddess and a cool laid back personality to boot. I never will forget she wanted to show me something she was working on in class...she had to bend over to get to it. She was wearing low cut jeans, tan...she knew exactly what she was doing. She was always hanging all over me laughing and stuff. My buddy would give me a hard time about it...
Think she's married now...oh if we could all do it over lol.

It used to be when I got to go to my first Clemson vs USuCk at Clemson in 2008. JD ran all over them my friend got me in the student section. But the ND game this year passed that memory. I did six years in the Coast Guard and I'm now back in school at Clemson. I was in the student section and that game was just nuts. I remember rushing the field and turning around and looking at the crowd as the rain fell. What a night.

If we're talking one instant...

...the moment the cannon went off vs. Notre Dame in November of 1977. Folks who were there will never forget, folks who weren't will always regret.
More generally: * Seeing the sun come up for the first time after an all-nighter at the Tiger on the 9th floor of the Loggia.
* The night students held an demonstration to save the amphitheater, organized without Facebook or Tweets. It was an electric evening.
* Heading for the hills with a few friends and a lot of beer to watch the satellites from a mountaintop.

Rev- you are so right about that 1977 Notre Dame game, my most exciting memory too .. But your comment about the amphitheatre reminded me of the time there was a free afternoon concert by Flatt & Scruggs. At the time I wasn't a blue grass or country music fan but it was so much fun. Central Dance usually had someone like Chuck Berry. This was different. Maybe 1966??
