"Defense wins championships?"
Maybe not anymore.

the #1 defense and an inept offense, unless you're the Baltimore Ravens with Trent Dilfer at the helm.

The BC offense was ranked 125 of 127 teams this season.
Has there ever been a team with a larger discrepancy between the offense and defense? If I had to pick one, I'd take the best offense and trash defense...at least you'd have a fighting chance some weeks..when you can't score 20 points, you don't have much of a shot against anyone.

make it a little easier to pull an upset. More blowout losses, but also a better chance of getting a fluky win.

Neither is an ideal situation..but if we're talking the absolute worst of one, give me an offense. I'll take even a below-average offense with the best defense in the country, but BC is proof you still have to score points at a respectable rate.
They scored 100 points in their first 2 games..106 in their last 10 games. Not good

The flip side is Texas Tech. #2 Offense, #126 Defense

7-5 (4-5)
They lost to everyone that finished ahead of them and beat everyone that finished behind them. That's surprisingly consistent.
Beat Arkansas. 3 point loss to TCU. It definitely gives you a chance.
Having said that, BC also lost to everyone that finished ahead of them and beat everyone that finished behind them. 5 losses of 3 points or less.
I guess the moral of the story is that Defense gives you heartbreaking losses, and Offense gives you a chance against top teams. If you are going to be a bad team, do it with a good offense.

Yes lol..on the last page where BC is offensively, you can find Florida, Vanderbilt, and Missouri. Mizzou only 1 spot ahead of BC, they average 5 more yards per game but only scored 15 offensive touchdowns, tied for the fewest in the nation this season.

Problem is that if you have a good offense and bad defense you can in some situations outscore people and win because the other offense throws a pick, fumbles drops a crucial 3rd down. It is a lot easier for the defense to get lucky than to get points. What I mean is that in a 49-49 game, your offense goes down and scores and then your defense gets an interception, you go down and score again 56-49. However, if it is deadlocked at 3-0. What are the chances your defense is going to score a TD?
However, didn't BC's starting QB get hurt in the 2nd or 3rd game?
