before even blowing the first whistle at Oklahoma says a lot about where this program is with modern college football and how those a part of it or formerly a part of it may feel about it.

competitive disadvantage - like it or not, the portal is here and it's real. Better start using it, especially if we're going to be down 10 scholarship players after the second signing day.

BV just lost HIS starting QB to the portal, that is a consideration as well. If Cade gets here and he starts one game in front of DJ, goodbye Clemson, hello Portal, ask Kelly Bryant?

big difference in competition. My guess is he'll be very good in a system he knows well. But what choice did BV have, he had no QB on his roster who had thrown a pass after Rattler and Williams departed.
But when you see QB's leaving a program where the last 2 QB's were the first pick in the draft, that says everything about where college football is now.

guy has had great success. Great system. His resume isn't much different from Riley's before he became HC. Rattler was about PT, and that blew up. Williams looks to be a hired gun sadly

I think that is a factor. The QB’s that left didn’t know who or what system BV was going to install. They didn’t want to wait around to see. That is the new College Football, Bail when you get a chance……This is the way the majority of players are going to do. It is now all about ME not WE!!!!

The coach that created those 1st overall picks is not at OU anymore. A school doesn't make a player great, a coach does.

BV was always the progressive thinker on the staff which is why he never let his defense become stagnant as competitive OCs tried to figure out how to attack it. This is the opposite we've had on offense where we've held on to the Chad Morris playbook and let DCs figure out how to scheme against it without upgrading and re-imagining what had been a very successful offense but also gave us the luxury of maintaining it because we had the talent to make it work even as defenses were catching up.

We have a QB room that includes a QB that isn't even top 100 in the nation, 2 former walk-ons and an incoming first year. We're not exactly much better off if at all.

Then there’s no way bringing in a transfer will impact the culture you’ve built. Kind of a stretch to claim that Coach V’s actions have anything to say about our program. Especially since Clemson is trying to bring in transfers now so Venables would be part of that if he were still here.

The excuse Tnet has made for a lack of portal use has been that portal players are bad character. Not Clemson men. Cancers. Me first. yadda yadda. So if this is the case, then bringing in portal players now will certainly taint any culture developed right? Have the Tnets told BV this?

I'm not saying BV has a different stance on the portal than DS, but it's clear why he's going to it, and it's certainly not philosophical. Almost all of their other QB's have entered the portal. They have 1 QB left, and he's a freshman. He has few options left, which is actually in line with Dabo's philosophy.

Dabo is a competitor and wants to win Natties. I am going to go way out on a limb here, but knowing Dabo and what he has done with the program I feel sure he will use the portal if he needs to and sees that it benefits Clemson. Again that’s my opinion and if some want to continue to worry about it then to each their own.

When does it need to be used if not at 65 scholarship players? Do we need to get down to 55? 50?. What's the threshold. Cause at this point we sure as hell aren't signing big HS classes.
