The colleges and universities can and do have complete control of this.

There can be no college football without the schools and their consent. It's not something that can't be done, it's just a matter of where their priorities are. Those acting as if it's too far out of control and it's too late to do anything are liars.
In my opinion, college football would be much better off and still remain extremely popular and profitable if their teams consisted of actual college students who were academically qualified and pursuing actual degrees, subject to the same rules and expectations as any other student. If the NFL wants a minor league, let them start one; do not let college football turn into that.
We have a choice here.

Great idea but some of those who say they agree will cheat...what you say is the only way but now we have majors with less actual learning than a good high school and many schools dont require that...some will always cheat to win and unless they are caught and punished it will go right back...the death punishment was appropriate but those too large to fail never had it applied! now many think these poor pro wannabees need money...the education really don't matter to these...they could care less...Dabo tries to change it...he is despised for it!

Originally, I agreed with the camp that thought college football fans would not continue watching as the sport was changed by money because they were connected to the University. Most would prefer the top 10% of players go get paid in a minor league system.
Last year I posted that it was that same love for the University that would keep us watching no matter what happens. The money is too big to create a failure of the type that would reverse the tide. Now we just have to hope Clemson find a future in whatever college football world this becomes.

The way you fix it is for conferences to say we are only playing student athletes. Any athlete getting paid is no longer a student athlete. That person is a semi pro athlete and we don't play semi pro athletes.
You want to sell your NIL or you want to be paid beyond scholarships and a modest living allowance which will be the same for every FB team member and play, great.
Also start capping coaches salaries and contracts. You can't limit players monetarily and continue to make coaches filthy rich.
Option B is to fold the top teams into the NFL as semi pro farm teams.

You realize that's a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act, right?

If the NCAA vs Alston case didn't get everyone's attention, then the Tennessee injunction against the NCAA that says that the NCAA can't interfere with NIL in any way should.
However, let's just say that your way was t illegal, and Clemson refused to sign anyone that got NIL. Goodbye to the best athletes. They'd go to other schools that had well funded NIL collectives.
Another scenario...Clemson signs a terrific star player who doesn't have a NIL deal. 5 games into the season, said player signs a NIL deal. What happens then. Does Clemson i

stay in good academic standing while working toward a legitimate degree, exactly like all other full-time students, then I don't care if they are paid for something legitimate outside of school. The main thing is that they be legitimate, full-time students, and not just bringing in athletes who aren't capable of or interested in college academics.

Watch any of the great games from last year and you will not be able to tell that NIL or the portal had any effect on the game. The rules have changed the way have changed over and over through the years, and maybe somewhere down the road there will be issues but they are not here yet.

qualifications. The ones that can't get in that are really good can go play in a semi-pro league created by the NFL. For Gosh sakes, force the NFL to have some skin in the game.

We are the fans, we have the choice…
We watch, tv companies get paid, we go to the game, Clemson gets paid, we contribute to NIL, the “student-athlete” gets paid…
Where you will lose the fans is turning it in to minor league or semi pro etc, where the student/university part is disconnected, which is where it’s going…
Then it’s like the xfl or some other “also ran” league.
Then the seemingly endless flow of money dries up, quick, because the fans say see ya!
