Look at the top 10 RBs listed on 247 over the last 10-15 years. On average only maybe 2 out of the 10 ended up being at least solid contributors. Maybe Gideon Davidson is part of that "2", but I wouldn't count on it. Folks need to slow down about him being "the guy" as a Freshman. He seems to have pretty good vision, but I don't quite see him having any elite traits. He's more likely to be hyped underachiever (ie. Demarcus Bowman) than a Bijon Robinson. At RB I'd recruit more based off traits (ie. Elite burst, exceptional vision, devastating power, crazy elusiveness etc.) than recruiting rankings.

I have watched his film. His best trait is his vision. He's pretty good at everything else, but not elite at any of them.

Forget G.Davids9n for a minute. Look at where RBs are ranked as a category among all of the other categories within the top 25 overall prospects.
RBs are nowhere near the ‘high status’ position group as they were in the late 1980’s / early 1990’s (as your TNet handle implies your age when a student at Clemson.
QBs dominate. DEs and DTs are way up there. WRs anre prominent. OTs are prominent. For RBs, there aren’t an especially large numbers.
My guess is that, as you suggest, rating RBs is harder to do than many other positions. That is not to say that a ‘just good, not great’ RB is not a valuable asset.
Catching the ball. Blocking. Not fumbling. Snap count discipline. These attributes mean so much in today’s football that an otherwise very good back will not see the field much.

I am going blank on the name of the RB from Spartanburg who many said would start from the day he stepped on campus. I don’t think he ever did and he finished his career at USC. That is a recent and local example.

love when nobody's tell the rest of us what they would do if only they were coaches...
you know if a kid has vision watching video highlites his mom took from the stands and put online with the cure circle or pointer so you know which player is theirs... the same one they send in to the University athletic departments...
How big is he, what's his 20 time, his 40 time and how does he look in shuttle drills... can he block, does he have burst, can he catch... those are likley traits recruiters are looking for but you would have to ask a coach...
