This used to happen all the time in Andy Griffith, such as Sam the Butcher playing numerous characters and Uncle Jessie coming to town with his hillbilly nephews but Bo and Luke were nowhere to be seen, but you would expect more from a full length Christmas movie classic.

neighbor in the church, the old man, why wouldn't he simply tell him that two thieves planned to rob his house later that night? Or to just call the police? He knew exactly when they would be there. For a smart kid, he wasn't very bright.
