Was Shipley the issue all along?

Think about how many of our drives were effectively killed by no gains on 1st and 10 with Shipley slipping into the line.
This is not meant to pile on him, but he could have definitely been a big wrench in the machine overall

Similar to CK2 balling out in the UNC game then struggling against Tennessee, we still have issues but we played well today.
That said, I definitely think Mafah should be 1A instead of Ship now. We should transition Ship to more of the 3rd Down RB/all-purpose swiss knife. More 2-back formations too where Ship or Haynes can come in to be that quick back.

I heard Shipley was not active on the sidelines today. Stayed away from the huddles on the sideline and showed little emotion.

It's kind of like the Braves minus Acuna. Some guys are really good players. But zero team sports are won without the team aspect.! Acuna and Shipley are ME guys. I have felt this all season and last year.

Better blocking today. If I could put Shipley aggressiveness in Mafahs body we'd have a tailback.

I suspect the fact that the whole offense looked better without him is a coincidence, but Mafah looks like the stronger back in every metric right now. Better vision, better patience, harder to bring down, and not even significantly slower at the top end.

for a change. It wasn’t that Mafah is better. I believe anybody can that. They both have different skills that are better in certain situations but this “Shipley is no good” stuff is ridiculous.

Ship appears to not be in the greatest shape physically this year. Mafah is a Beast and a more Savvy runner. The Oline also appears to give more effort when blocking for Big Phil.

He's definitely not weak. Rewatch a few games. He takes a beating and keeps coming. They're both talented in their own style.
That being said, Mafah needs to be in the mix a lot more, otherwise it's gonna start looking sus

Our O was not that good today. Mafah ran well but besides that it wasn't great. Had the ball at the 50 multiple times and did nothing late. Great win but our O wasn't that impressive.

Compared to lastweek anything today would have been impressive.
Cade seems like he's unsure about everything. It doesn't make sense to me, unless he just doesn't have a high football IQ.
Our D was playing at an elite level against the refs and the Irish.

Really?
Cade delivered multiple throws in some tight windows today. He showed major improvement in his pocket presence too. Cade did his job
Compared to Hartman who was overthrowing and under throwing his receivers all game

the refs looked away quite a few times, so they didn't have to call holding or past interference on the Gold. It was majorly sus... there was a thread here game time.
Cade definitely is feeling more comfortable, and the receivers don't do him many favors, but there are moments that he just seems confused, like he wants to call an audible but isn't allowed to, so goes with the ###### play that he isn't confident in? Or maybe he's a slow learner, as some of us are... lol

I do wonder if the OL is tired of blocking for Shipley, a guy who goes ballistic when one of them misses a block…
Could just be coincidence that we ran the ball better yesterday, but wasn’t ND the best run defense we faced all year?
To me it says either the OL was more motivated to block or Mafah just has better vision and patience

Reasonable it could be a combination of both of those things you mentioned, and more. Idea that we reduced the amount of pulling and movement OLinemen did yesterday probably added to the success as well. Iotw, I think Shipley still prob does okay yesterday with the zone blocking. Is Mafah a guy who needs 20-25 carries to get the most out of him, that’s possible too.
I truly believe Clemson offense has had several aspects that needed work and changes. Don’t think it was ever just one or two things. Hats off to the coaches for this week and the changes that were made. Seriously, take a lap for that. Game plan and in-game play improved. The changes they made absolutely made a positive difference. Go Tigers!

By every metric Mafa is better.

They both fumble so that's a wash.
Ship simply can't break tackles or move the pile like Mafa.
Also, the game yesterday shows me that he has a much better jump cut which surprised me to see a big man do it better than Ship.
