I found Coach Allen's comments interesting about the Defense and physicality

He basically said the physicality that he'd like to see was "missing" at times last season. And I think it's been missing since BV left, to be honest. Just my take, but I found that comment pretty telling about what Coach Allen is seeing, and what direction he wants to take the defensive mindset.

We always had the dudes in defense to be elite. But I think Goodwin really allowed some bad habits to take hold that cost us games.

I think Goodwin is only good at football on paper and lacks the personality to communicate with an actual unit.

I think this is pretty close. Goodwin knows his stuff but his lack of playing (not necessarily necessary) and his natural personality allowed the drop in physicality.

Goodwin is a great analyst. There is a reason BV hired him at OU. That doesn't mean he is a leader of men though. Dabo is a leader of men. Tom Allen is a leader of men. Matt Luke is a leader of men. I think we'll see some big improvements on D this year.

Goodwin is great at the X’s and O’s.

But his personality doesn’t fit for a DC.

In other words i think the coaches and the players were running around like chickens with their heads cut off just trying to meet the demands of an over complicated scheme and in return end up sacrificing the fundamentals and playing downhill.
