Re: TONY STEWARD UPDATE? Will he be Ready

And will Steward be ready to even play in the fall?
Well at least ready to play at full speed?
I think he admitted last year that he wasn't really 100% confident with his knee and dad gum the other one hand to go out.
I wish this kid all the best and I hope he will be ready to go. He will be a great one. I just wonder if it will be another year away.

In my somewhat educated opinion..

(as an athletic training student) they shouldn't bother with the medical hardship waiver for this past year, it should just be his freshman year.. he should redshirt this coming season and play in 2013 with full confidence.. even if he is rehabbed and cleared for contact, he will spend most of this year dealing with the psychological aspects of recovery.. it won't be till midway through the 2012 season that he is 12 months post-op.. you need more than a year to recover FULLY as a football player..

I hate to hear that they used a year of his eligibilty for 16 special teams tackles and 3 defensive snaps. We didn't have anyone else that could play special teams?

One of MANY poor decisions by this staff on personnel last year. We wasted 4-5 guys for 50-60 plays. Major mistake in my view. BV will pay for the terrible substitution patterns from 2011.

He didn't want to redshirt and he was considering looking at another school early in the fall...sometimes the guy just wants to play no matter what.

Bashaud Breeland

I think Breeland warrants more than one sentence in this discussion. He was a terror when he got snaps last year. You can put him on an island and focus the rest of your talent on the other side of the field. He's one of the best DBs I've seen in orange in a long time... and very much under-valued in discussions like this.

I'd say it was obvious Breeland had ...

the highest ceiling of all our dbs last year. He made some outstanding plays but also got picked on some. In the Orange Bowl he gave up in the 2nd half (of course so did the rest of the team). With some decent coaching he could be an NFL corner.

Breeland got picked on? He looked good to me

And Jenkins really looked good late in the year. Seemed to be a play maker and a VERY solid tackler for a little guy.
I think these two are the future.

they wrapped up but didn't bring them to ground, NO

thats the whole point, they DIDN'T wrap up. The thud tackling is the right description and that is hitting but NOT wrapping up.

they need to stop practicing that way. Practice "full contact" taking the play to the ground. Yes, you risk injuries but guys will learn to practice and play harder. Most injuries occur when one guy is half speed and another is full speed. If everyone is full speed at the point of contact, everyone improves and the chance of injuries decreases. The only way to play physical is practice that way. This "bouncing" off of people in practice carries over to the game and is painful to watch. The guys think the play is over simply because they "bumped into" somebody. They simply cannot practice that way. Practice physical/play physical. Go Tigers !!

Robinson was also a target DB to get picked on.

I still think that it was our safety play that hurt us in the secondary most of the year. Too many times guys got past everybody.
I wonder if anybody still utilizes the scrubs on the team to allow propor execution during practice drills? Like the movie "RUDY", haha!
