The Tucker Hipps Settlement
Aug 4, 2017, 9:43 AM
|
|
While there is no settlement that will ever erase the pain the Hipp's family is suffering, it's a shame that everything is sealed and essentially "swept under the rug".
It's over, no one to blame, but a settlement paid????
Very disappointed in Clemson University, Clemson President and BOT, the Clemson University and City Police Departments and SLED.

Nice post for trying to stir something up. I'm sure his family is thrilled you bring it up on a public forum. You sir need to learn to have respect & know when it's best to keep your mouth shut. Actually I really doubt you would be so bold as to bring something like this up out from behind the bold anonymity of your keyboard. Rarely would I ask T-Net mods to "take out the trash" but trash is exactly what I see you as. MODS....

You can have liability without really being at "fault"

sounds like this was one of those situations. The parents thought that Clemson should have babysat their kid more and might have prevented it but Clemson was not responsible for his death. Thats why there is insurance.
And you don't know who asked for it to be sealed. It could have been the Hipps family so that the world wouldn't have been able to judge his actions.

That's bs. How about finding out what really happened instead of letting big money cover it up. It is all of our business Clemson is a public U and a land grant school. We always say Clemson is better than that.

It was our business when the police and the university and the family wanted to solve the case and needed information from wherever they could get it. And we assume they still want to solve it and still need informatiom.
And of course Clemson is a public land grant university that gets government money that we pay in taxes' And Clemson also gets money from tuition and fees that many of us have paid as students and many are paying for students now and in the past.

I would think freedom of information would only apply to university related issues, and obviously this involved a family not associated with the university that may have wanted it to be kept private.

I was tracking with you right up until the last paragraph. The campus clinic is part of the public land grant university that gets government money as well. Should we be able to look at the records there?

If it involves a cover up, it's everyone's business. I've seen plenty of them. They are a threat to us all.

But, because a kid died you can't disagree without being criticized.
The hip family went after the money.

if they use the money to enrich themselves or use it to educate students/parents on being mature with alcohol, conflict management and social situations to prevent it from happening again.
From the outside looking in, this seems to be about the parents making sure that someone was held responsible for the tragedy, as long as they also didn't have to realize the culpability their own son had in the situation. I'm not judging, because I can't say that I wouldn't do the exact same thing as a grieving parent.

The 25 million tends to disagree.

I have 3 kids and I hate to think about them being hurt, but I was raised different.
If clemson officials picked up tucker and threw him over a brudge, they are responsible.
If the frat picked up tucker and threw him over a bridge, they are responsible.
If tucker was told to jump off a bridge and he did, he is responsible. I know it is hard to believe in this day and age, but sometimes WE are actually responsible for OUR actions.
The answer to " would you jump off a bridge if your friends did?" Is NO. It's my job as a parent to teach them that.

I think it is highly unlikely he jumped off the bridge at that location given it was over land.

True, except autopsy reports stated he had blunt force strikes to the head .. no one jumps off a bridge head first . They dropped him by his ankles.

Just curious but as Clemson is a public institution
Aug 4, 2017, 10:14 AM

and assuming public money is being paid as part of the settlement, wouldn't the agreement be subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act?

I know it's getting close to football season coot but if you're gonna talk ####, talk football. Stooping to insulting fans based on someone's death is pretty pathetic. But I'd expect nothing less from a fanbase who videotapes two people fornicating in WB parking lot. It's what y'all do.

I regret that Tucker Hipps died. I feel awful for the him, his family, friends and for the people who knew him and loved.
I hate that so many people have been so quick since day 1 of incident to cast blame, doubt and accusations at Clemson, at other students, at the legal authorities who investigated this case and to presume to know some hidden truth. Everyone wants to be little Nancy Grace. A young man died. And many uninvolved, unconnected people with no facts and no knowledge have thoroughly enjoyed themselves speculating and BSing publicly about the man's death, essentially have fun based on the death of a Clemson student. What a shame.

It's standard to keep the terms of a settlement private
Aug 7, 2017, 10:21 AM
|

It benefits both sides. The family doesn't want to be harassed about getting too little money (you let them off the hook!) or too much money (all you cared about was a paycheck!). Same with the defendants but with the shoe on the other foot.
