My first reaction when I saw that play was that a rule change was needed. You can't take advantage of a defender who will get penalized if he hit the player starting his slide. It's also why I hate late hit penalties when the QB is running along the sideline and is getting as many yards as they can before they step out. If you're riding the sideline, then I should be able to hit you, even if you've just stepped out.

You get what you get. I remember a playoff game where Trevor started his slide and they spotted the ball behind the first down line. We may have had to punt because of that.
He was technically down, although it was pretty cool to see. It also wasn't like Wake had a defense anyways.

What you got was the play being called by the rules properly. He never went down.
Now the rule is changed, for the better. Refs did nothing wrong.

The NCAA finally did something right by quickly addressing the issue. However, I think fake slide calls should be reviewable. If a QB makes a quick cut and is called down, the play should be reviewed.
