Not sure what could possibly be stupid about entertaining the Southern Cal job. Arguably one of the top four or five jobs in the country.

Lol, check their recent history on coaching hires… It’s FSU and Texas in California! No support. TE is smart, not dumb.

It would be really nice if you could quit cyberbulling people. You are a disgrace.

but I find it hard to believe Southern Cal would even remotely consider hiring a coach with no prior head coaching experience.

Im not sure. more and more of the upper tier coaches jump to HC without being a HC at a less school. I say it is a even split. A lot of the better talent now will stay at a better school than take a risk at a mid-level HC gig. I mean, job offers are not jumping out at Doeren, Babers, Muscoot, etc as those schools will even take a 9-10 win season and still kill their career.
Considering what a Coordinator can make, TE already makes more than most head coaches in the AAC - Including Jeff Scott.
I can see USC taking Elliott, but I can also see a lot of other options too. TE would be smart to take that type of gig as while that program has expectation issues, it also does not have a ceiling either.

I think they ultimately hire Luke Fickell...

He's done a great job at Cincinnati and the USC AD, who came from Cincinnati, is the guy who hired Fickell.

I would expect him to go after Finkell, and he would have a good shot at him.
However, Bohn was on the west coast before Cincy. Finkell has only worked in the state of Ohio. My guess is that while he might be a good choice, from Finkel's perspective it would be a new frontier and be a lack of an immediate base for him.
But then again, I don't see any of the midwestern job openings for Finkel to take. Kelly at ND and Day looks to be sitting in Columbus. Franklin is likely at Ped State. I don't see Mich going after him. Maybe Mich State if this season tanks for Mel, but I see Sparty giving him some time. Nothing else in that area for Luke.

winner - someone with winning head coach experience and is willing to pay handsomely for it. They are going to want a big name to make a splash and quite frankly Tony Elliot ain't that name...

That may be a bit of a leap for Tony but that’s the type of job that “should” get his attention.
If I were him I would pursue it. He probably wouldn’t get it but who knows.

That's funny, the only way Elliot gets that kind of a job is

if he leaves Clemson and becomes a head coach at a lower FBS school, wins there, moves to higher FBS school, wins there, then he would be a candidate.
USC isn't hiring an assistant coach with no head coaching experience. No offense to Coach Elliot.

I would normally agree but USC has been just horrible for a while now…they may try something crazy, like hire TE.
