Clemson has historically played a weak OOC schedule - but this year - it looks worse than normal. 7 teams that should not challenge us. Why not sprinkle in a couple of decent games to prepare us for ACC play or before Kentucky? 6 of the 7 are home games.
If we want to be ready to compete with the big boys - let’s try and schedule some challenging competition.
For the record - I am hopeful we have a good year. I just don’t know why we don’t schedule at least a couple (2) of decent tests.
First 7 games.
Boston College - VCU, Temple, South Carolina
California - Vandy, USC
Duke - Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas
FSU - Florida, Temple Umass
GT- Georgia, Cincy
Louisville - Tennessee, Indiana, ole Miss
Miami - Drake, Arkansas
Nc State - Purdue, Texas
UNC - Kansas, Dayton, Alabama
Notre Dame - Georgetown, Rutgers, Houston
Pittsburgh- LSU, West Virginia , Ohio state
Syracuse- Texas, Tennessee
Virginia - Villanova, Tennessee , Florida

The strategy -- schedule mid-majors who are expected to contend for their conference championships. Eastern Kentucky won the Atlantic Sun last season. Kentucky, Memphis, South Carolina and Wake Forest loom in December. The preseason schedule may be one of the best in recent memory.

You don't know anything about college basketball. Boise State is predicted to win the MtnWest which last season has 6 teams make the NCAAT. That's a good conference. Also SFU is good from another good mid major conference the ACC. You ever heard of Gonzaga. And also Penn State and Fordham is in the tourney field. Fordham upset Seton Hall the other night.

It's like someone saying they think that Coastal Carolina would be a real bad loss in college baseball. But those people probably don't know much about college baseball because if they did you would realize that they have a top 20-25 program in college baseball and won a national championship recently in that sport.
Follow the sport before you comment on what are good mid major leagues that beat bigger schools sometimes in that sport.

I know you've gone full in the tank the other way but Boise State basketball =/= to Coastal Carolina baseball. Coastal has a CWS championship for God's sake. Yes, he is undervaluing Boise State and he omitted the hard part of the later non-conference schedule. Brownell has been quite good at blowing games early in the non-conference slate so I like easing into like this while still getting some marquee match-ups for non-con SOS. But lets stop pretending the Dons are a high mid-major. I have no beef with the schedule - it's actually great. But I don't think the OP's question as posed deserves the full Brownell Bros treatment.

So Brownell can pad his record. With a very weak ACC, Brownell is almost guaranteed a 20-win season. Ole Brad may actually make the NCAAT in consecutive seasons. I would settle for two wins in the ACCT.

You are equating power 4 conference teams to good teams and in basketball that just isn't always the case. Boise St and San Fran are probably better teams then half the schools in power 4 conferences.

Maybe.... just maybe that was intentional? With a lot of newcomers, wouldn't you want to have a few games to gel before increasing your non-conference competition? Crying about not having a tough schedule for the first half of non conference is very petty.

Ohh, a conspiracy theorist.
Not so fast. I still have looked at the two teams tha have not been part of the ACC and I don’t consider them ACC, - but even if their first 7 are as poor as Clemson’s, it does not change the narrative.
There is a reason that the other schools play better opponents mixed in. For end of year analysis and for experience in tougher games.
More than a few times has Clemson started with a gaudy record and then passed over at the end due to our strength of record.
YYES, I do agree with ramping up. Which is exactly my point. None of the 7 is ramping.

Those "sisters of the poor" teams do not mentally or physically prepare Clemson for tougher opponents, it just compiles enough wins to get them into the Big Dance. Coach Izzo (Michigan State) always plays the Kansases, the Kentuckys and Gonzagas of the world early to mentally prepare his teams for the NCAAs. Duke with Cooper Flagg looks the strongest in the ACC this year. The rest of the ACC looks weak with the OLD coaches Miami coach Larranaga (75), FSU Leonard Hamilton (76) and Tony Bennett gone from Va. UNC's
Davis is up and down (Inconsistant). Hamilton and Larranaga need to retire.

To answer your questions.
1. Non power 4/5 and non traditional basketball schools. Aka, schools that are not in dance on their own merit. Yes, my opinion, but hard to argue against them.
2. Leaving off 2 schools. Quite frankly, I decided to simply do the ACC schools from last year. I was getting bored and internet was iffy so I wanted to finish. But, if I left off wake or the va schools, I would get these questions.
Rather than question that - why don’t you give a true response to the data I posted? There is a clear difference between the others and us. Even if a satellite Kentucky school wins their conf, compare them. When the committee reviews , will they discount our wins due to who we played? Yes. I also think it helps us to play better competition.
People acting like I insulted someone. I simply made the factual statement that others work in a couple of better teams to play along with their own cupcakes.

I'm okay with-it Mike. Last night showed that there are some growing pains for this team early on. They were challenged but ended up winning and gained some confidence and experience playing together. I would rather have that than what would have probably been a loss against a better team.

There are several teams listed that weren’t even in the top 150 last year, and two that couldn’t crack the top 200. Tough? Georgetown? Maybe in the 80’s. Great work Boomer!
