It’s misleading because Dabo’s first few years negatively impact his winning percentage.
The portal has been around since 2019 and Clemson has played 58 games since then. The more accurate comparison would be to compare those 58 games to the previous 58 games.
Pre-portal: 55-3
Post-portal: 47-11

2019 was the first season of portal players. It’s perfectly fine for you to only want to use 5 years prior, just like it’s perfectly fine for me to use the entire body of work. Just be sure you are clear you are comparing 5 full
years to 4.25 years, otherwise it could be misleading. And when you have spent the time and effort you have knocking our recruiting, and we actually stack up really well talent wise, the portal becomes an easy scapegoat.

#1 UGA only has 5 portal players and has lost more than they've taken. Unless, the portal has players guaranteed not to fumble, transfers wouldn't have helped us.

The point is, 86% of people blaming the portal are simply parroting something they have heard and have done no research themselves. That behavior is curious to me.

It's roster management in general.
For example, we can't get a pass rush to save our lives. Having better DEs would have helped. That position has been grossly mismanaged and don't see how Hall still as a job to be honest.

You want to see more pressure, sure, who doesn’t, when that’s their job, but our DEs are very good and we’re not mismanaged at all. The fact that they were occupying the OL every play, and maintaining contain, allows for blitzes. Would you have like to seen more blitzing? I wouldn’t mind it. But that’s not on out DEs.
Most people criticizing Wes are doing it based on evaluations they made of him last year. I’m not saying he is, or isn’t, the guy, but he was clearly hamstrung by our backs last year. That caused him to blitz less. This year, our backs are much improved, and the results
are we are clearly blitzing more. We just held FSU to 311 yards, 22 on the ground, and 17 regulation points on offense. Had Venables had those exact numbers yesterday we would have been celebrating his genius.

So this statement means that the talent in the 2008-2011 teams were anywhere near the talent of the 2019-2023 teams ??
The last 7 games looks a lot like 2010, with losses to Duke & Coots along with ACC rival FSU. Last 4 home games 2-2 after not being beat at home for years! Three of those losses were largely self inflicted. We all know Coot game was a loss torn from the jaws of victory, and much of the same with Duke & FSU. Yesterday was a bad loss. Team played well enough to win, yet several things transpired that were questionable from our coaches/playcalling.
I don’t like the portal thing, but NIL changed everything and college football is now different. It sucks, but it’s a fact. I do not think this transfer portal thing matters IF you can execute and get the talent to play to its potential. We have guys that simply aren’t winning their battles and a QB who has a turnover problem.

Only if you include the pre-Chad years.... The program turned when he hired Morris and again when he hired Venables... Unfortunately it turned again when Venables left. We are nothing like the team that lost to Bama in the first championship game.

Dabo has lost 4 straight games against P5 competition despite having more talent than all of them. 3/4 of those teams were quarterbacked by a QB they picked up from the portal.

So you acknowledge qb play is crucial to success at football? That qb is disproportionately important relative to other talent? Is it therefore possible that a miss on that particular position from the prior two years and not grand conspiracies about Dabo’ lack of fire, nepotism, and lack of use of portal is more to blame? Is it also possible that the frustration from those two seasons is now being taken out on a true sophomore’s first season as a starter who is improving rapidly? Maybe if this was viewed as a “rebuilding” season at the most important position there wouldn’t be so much angst about the current situation? But since it was preceded by two seasons with an inability to develop the last qb a lot of people are lashing out on pure emotion?
