Priester Leads Clemson to 20-9 Win Over Maryland OCT. 25, 1997
Raymond Priester ran for a 204 yards and scored both Clemson touchdowns as the Tigers won their fifth straight against Maryland, 20-9, Saturday at College Park, Md.
Clemson, 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, trailed 9-7 at halftime before Priester took over, running 22 times for 128 yards and a score in the second half.
Priester finished with a school-record tying 36 attempts. His 204 yards was the seventh-most in Clemson history. The senior tailback set the record of 263 yards last year against Duke. Maryland (2-6, 1-4) failed to get a touchdown in its four previous games against Clemson while being outscored, 93-3. The Terrapins ended their lengthy touchdown drought in the second quarter, but that wasn’t enough offense to offset Priester’s brilliant performance.
After a sluggish first half, the Tigers took the lead for good on a 27-yard field goal by David Richardson in the third quarter.
