The Opening: All In Cookout update and the importance of DE's in recruiting

It’s been an action-packed few days here at Nike’s The Opening, and before I head out to watch the linemen finals and the finals of the 7-on-7 tournament, I have some additional defensive intel to pass along, as well as an All In Cookout note. Full Story »

Thanks for all the updates

It's awesome have a Clemson guy up there to give us the inside scoop! Thanks to you and the TigerNet team for making this happen.

Nike needs to rethink the linemen work.

Jul 3, 2017, 1:20 PM

Clemson's Matt Bockhorst tore his ACL last year at The Opening.

Yes!

Two major injuries.

Oddly Nike stopped the lineman work. Maybe they are concerned too?

Apparently Teddy Bridgewater suffered one of the most

Jul 3, 2017, 3:47 PM

grotesque injuries ever witnessed...nobody will ever say what actually happened.

But it happened on a non-contact drill where he apparently stepped on himself.

They do because they aren't representative of football

Jul 5, 2017, 9:30 AM [ in reply to Nike needs to rethink the linemen work. ]

The OLs are at a huge disadvantage in those drills. The DL is going on a known snap count, a known play type (drop back pass) while running forward (against a guy whose momentum is going backward) to a stationary point. In a real game, the OL knows the snap count and where the play is heading and the QB can move. Basically all an OL can hope to do in those drills is get a hand on them and change the angle. You can't really block anyway and all the advantage is on the DL.

So maybe we will have a DE at 280. We did have one at 300+ as in CW.

So we have SDE at 260-280 and DT at 310-340 and WDE at 240-260.

Sounds ok to me! And they all run a 4.5 to 4.7 40 time.

Saw him at Newspring yesterday with other D-Linemen. My friend asked who that was and I told him he was an 18 year old kid. The response I got was "Nope. Nope. No way."
All that to say that Jordan is just as big, if not bigger than Austin Bryant. It'll be interesting to see what Coach V and Coach Bates decide to do with him.
