Let's face it, in at least one respect, Finnedbomb is right.

Neither Clemson nor FSU bring a new TV market for the SEC. Our only chance at being invited there would be as a hedge by them to keep the BIG out of their tv footprint. So, the question becomes, do they care enough about that, to invite us? Or does the BIG even care enough about expanding into that southern footprint to invite us?

The answer to that second question is probably yes, if the BIG seeks further conference expansion. The answer to the first question is unknown. But, one thing for sure is, the SEC has enough of a God complex that they are not going to be happy playing second fiddle to ANYONE else. So, ultimately, that make get us a grudging invitation somewhere down the line.

Either way, I don't think either conference makes that next expansion move wholeheartedly. The logistics become a nightmare, even moreso than now, once you pass sixteen teams. If a TV revenue pot increase were not forthcoming, future expansion is not going to happen.

If Facts matter Clemson should be their first pick. They look at TV views & passionate fan base, Clemson & Notre Dame should be the top two in my opinion!

TV Markets are barely a factor anymore. Most games are on national platforms and not regional anymore. It is more about the brand. Clemson's football brand is pretty strong in 2023. While their success on the field has not been great lately, FSU and Miami both have strong football brands as well.

Finebaum works in the media, he should know how that works these days. This is click bait

Gaining new markets is no longer the goal. Winning the ratings war by putting the best games on TV is the new goal. Despite playing the ACC schedule everyone likes to make fun of, Clemson averages higher ratings than a lot of the teams in the SEC....including USuCk.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

I'd say, especially usuc.

Exactly … “Are you a national brand?” is the real question.

Will viewers nation-wide be excited to see us play?

With Clemson the past decade, the answer has become a resounding YES! Viewers now see a Clemson game as “must see TV” regardless of what conference they are in.

The SEC doesn’t care about gaining or increasing a Southeastern “footprint” per se, they want to add a program that viewers all over the country will tune in to watch.

Clemson now checks that box … unlike South Carolina and at least half of the present member schools in the SEC.

Thank you! I'm not sure why this concept is so hard to grasp

Eyes on TV are what matters and in that case Clemson is the biggest fish available outside of Notre Dame.

Yes, and this is only from us being in the ACC and playing a lot of the “lackluster” games that we do play.

If we joined the SEC, we’d become a top-5 viewed team in the country because of our games against SEC opponents.

Both the B10 and SEC are sitting pretty right now. They don’t have to do anything short term and can wait it out as long as possible.
The ACC idiots and yes, Clemson too, are responsible for agreeing to that stupid ### GOR that holds us hostage until 2036. We have to sit and watch, as teams like Rutgers and Vandy bring in millions more for their football programs than Clemson within the next few years.

Just because your in the same state

2

May 23, 2023, 11:22 AM

doesn't mean your in the same market. The Midlands and the upstate are two separate markets. I've lived in both.
Why don't they see that. And Big Ten didn't have an issue bringing in two teams from the same city ..let alone state. And they didn't have a problem bringing in Texas. Granted Texas is a huge state, but still.

I just believe that both the SEC and the Big 10 have in their minds to extend to a 20-22 team conference to become known as a super conference. When will they do this, I'm clueless, but I do believe that it will happen within the next 5 years, and there are enough good FB, Baseball, and basketball schools to make up 2 or even 3 super conferences with 20 schools each. Or it could be two 25 school conferences to make up two pretty strong super conferences.

The power 5 as it's been known as, is at the end of it's run and becoming the dark side of college sports especially since the portal and the NIL. American college sports will move into something Kin to professional sports at a lower level, but important for the NFL, MLB, and NBA to use for drafting their players of the future!!!!
