Texas A&M recruiting
Jan 5, 2022, 11:41 AM
|
|
Texas A&M just signed seven out of 20 of their all-time rated recruits. No. 1,3,5,11,13,15,& 17., They signed seven DL. The top four are rated 1,4,7, & 11 best in the country. They are also CB at 100% for the 3rd ranked DL in the country. All for a guy who has underperformed as a coach wherever he has gone. But I guess I guess there is nothing to look at here, NCAA.

There is nothing to look at because it is all legal.
Their boosters formed a non-profit to fund recruit and player NIL deals.

I am not willing to read into 49 state laws with D1 football teams.
In what way are Texas & A&M breaking Texas state laws?

Everything’s bigger in Texas boys.
Why you cryin’? If they’re good we get to watch em’ pound the coots every year and give bama/lsu/aub hell. What’s not to like? Well, the maroon I guess.
Jimbo can recruit. That’s not news.

How are they breaking Texas Law? If they are, Texas will fix the law. We got to quit whining about the NIL game and learn to play it. The game is now about money. It is not about a father figure head coach and a college experience. Get on NIL boat or get left. Unfortunate, but that is the way it now is.

It is a great time to have a billionaire booster that doesn't mind dropping millions annually into the NIL slush fund. They are the de facto owners of the college program. No need to go through administrators at the university. Coaches just send their recruit wish list out and let the money men/women and their lawyers seal the deal.

Or do like Texas and pay OL $50,000 per year? The linemen simply have to do a few charity promos. This cost $800,000 to fund. Perhaps it’s time to have an IPTAY NIL branch, since we don’t have any oil or software tycoons in our alumni database.

That's why their recruiting is going so well.

And they're rumored to be 2 to 3 yr contracts so players can't transfer without giving the money back or at least being prorated. If the contract term was made illegal i think it would stop a lot of this madness. I have a feeling these donors would limit the amount of money they would shell out if they knew the kid could transfer at any time. IMO.

I have never heard of this but all it takes is one disgruntled dude to get pissed and shine a light on anything nefarious. All of those recruits wont make it past year two there no way. They will continue to recruit over anyone they can, it is only inevitable that the world finds out if / what is going on down there for real.

I'm not sure about Texas, but I feel like in South Carolina at least the rules say an NIL deal can't require a player to play for a particular school. If Texas has a similar rule then this would be a violation. I'm not sure if anyone has confirmed what type of deals the A&M boosters are giving out though or if anyone is going to bother enforcing what little rules still exist.

I could see boosters getting around this rule though by having the contract require in-person public appearances at a "local business" which would obviously be hard for players to do if they transfer to play somewhere out of the area.

standpoint there wasn't really enforcement or penalties thought through from a law enforcement/civil penalty perspective(haven't really looked at that portion) but it doesn't really matter from an NCAA standpoint if the state of Texas fails to enforce. The fact the law is broken will constitute NCAA violations.
The Texas law basically begs for fed legislation be established to keep things competitive. Kind of ironic.

Wished I had won that, close to billion dollar lottery, a few years ago where the winning ticket was sold in SC. Dabo and I would be setting up an NLI slush fun, provided he was down, to get the great ones....but with character. Then I would visit Brownell and the Baseball and Softball programs. Gotta keep the character in tact to keep the values there....while tossing in big bucks. I just want an even playing field and now that is all messed up. If this continues, it's bad for the game. But we can't fault the players. If their paying, go get it.

Just let the IRS follow the money. If it violates any federal statute then the outcome could reach RICO levels. That would be a show.

So if you signed and NIL you are definitely in as far as the 85 number? So if you are a player and do not get offered an NIL what do you jump in the portal? I guess my point is they are probably heavy on numbers but who do you cut if everyone has an NIL?

ENOUGH! I think we should explore the possibility that there are players out there who simply love football and are satisfied with a free education. I believe that there are enough schools to renounce play for pay and support quality scholar athletics=as in the past.

given the fact that he won a national championship.
He also has 5 top 10 finishes in 12 years as a head coach.
He is 117-37 as a head coach overall.
How is that underperforming?!?

He’s the second highest paid coach in college football. Aren’t you constantly preaching expectations should be relative? How can you have spent so much time attacking Dabo for underperforming this season then turn around and defend Jimbo against the same allegation? What has he done at A&M who at one point made him the highest paid coach and basically operate with an unlimited budget?
