"Former LSU HC Dale Brown reportedly charted every shot Pete Maravich took in college and found that if there had been a 3-point line, he would've averaged 57.0 points per game.
"What would that equivocate to over the course of Pistol Pete's three seasons with LSU? 4,731 career points.
"Caitlin Clark currently has 3,685 career points."
Interesting. My take-away from this? Wow, that guy a LOT of free time on his hands to chart EVERY shot Pete Maravich EVER took in college!

year in the WNBA by the time she has taken as many total shots as Pistol Pete did in college. I realize he didn't have very good players around him, but the man was given Carte Blanche by his father, the coach, to hoist it up whenever and where ever he wanted, and he took that to heart!

I dont know why they even compare the two as if she bested his record. They played vs different levels of competition. She is the women's basketball all-time top scorer and he is the men's all-time top scorer. On a simikar note possibly, I realize Jack has 18 Majors and Tiger has 15 Majors, but I don't consider Patty Berg's 15 Majors on the LPGA the same as Tiger's 15 Majors. Different worlds. JMO

At the end of the day it’s just ridiculous to compare these two. Two completely different games with women vs men. That’s why the NCAA doesn’t combine the records and have them separated. Pete still owns the all time record for NCAAM. There’s no such thing as all time NCAA D1 record. That’s made up by the media.
Let’s get real, do women really want to just throw their sport away and it just be one basketball team? Same with soccer, tennis, etc etc.
God made men and women different for a reason. We aren’t remotely the same so it’s just dumb to compare the two.

Absolutely correct ..... plus the women's basketball is smaller than the men's yet the hoop is the same. How many more of Pete's shots would have gone in with a smaller ball. Regardless, it is stupid to try and compare the two records. It is all part of the political correctness to wipe away the differences between men and women.

Women shouldn't be allowed to play sports.
2 reasons:
A.) I don't want to be beaten by a woman in any sport
3.) Sandwiches don't make themselves

and while Caitlin Clark is a phenomenally good player and her accomplishment is entirely noteworthy, at the end of the day, there should be two records, one for the men and one for the ladies. Just my .o2 cents

Pistol was a shooting phenom and never let an opportunity slip by when he could fire a shot up, and he was very good at it as you can tell by his prolific numbers. Just looking at his averages at LSU will make you wonder if he played the same game as everyone else lol.
Caitlyn is hot as fire right now and will go down as the best woman's collegiate basketball player ever by most everyone. This is her time and while some are doing their best to make it about them and downplay her accomplishments, everyone can see right through those petty perspectives. And there are also many former greats who are appreciating and understanding just how awesome she is.
No need to compare, just appreciate how incredible both players are and the records they hold.

people are really jumping through hoops to discredit this girls accomplishments.
Would PP have more points if they had a 3? Sure. But they didn't.
People should let this girl enjoy her moment instead of bringing her down.
So much negativity in the world. Maybe take the positive route and just congratulate her then move on with your life.

Embrace the power of "and". Pistol Pete AND Caitlin Clark are both very good basketball players. Know who didn't break Maravich's record? Every male and female who played NCAA basketball from 1970 until now. That's a lot of NBA and WNBA superstars.

You hear everything but none of it matters. What would Jack, Arnie, Gary, Tom and all the others done if they had today's ball ad clubs gives you an idea of why it doesn't matter? Pete was a great player in his day and Caitlin Clark is a great player today, that is all that matters.

A bit more perspective on this very speculative analysis. If this is accurate, it would have meant that Pete made 1,064 three pointers on college.
The all time record is 588.
Also, Pete made 1,387 field goals in college total. We are to believe that 77% of his career made shots were from 3 distance?
For reference, Girard’s split is 58%.
