In all reality he was just John Olerud with less competition.

This is a cold take

Feb 20, 2022, 10:23 AM

If you’ve ever been to Fenway and seen the red chair, you can see his power. But the BIGGEST difference… Ted fought bravely in a war and crashed a plane to save his legs. John Olerud was too big of a puzz to play first base without his little helmet on.

I have been there. He is overrated. He played against slow white dudes Just like Wilt is overrated. Anyway, I am a baseball nerd. I love it. The game has progressesd. Ted who be lucky to hit over .300 now.

I mean, that’s fine, but it doesn’t change the fact that Teddy Ballgame was a real man who should have a whiskey named after him and John Olerud asked girls to shower before he kissed them all over because he was afraid of germs.

Did you say cold?

Comparing eras is pretty useless. I mean you

Feb 20, 2022, 10:48 AM [ in reply to Re: Ted Williams was a bad ### ]

could say DJU is better than Johnny Unitas or Andrew Jones is better than Say Hey Willie and Hank Aaron. Which would be correct if you transported modern players back in time.

Re: Comparing eras is pretty useless. I mean you

Feb 20, 2022, 11:00 AM

Exactly....but I do it anyway. Babe Ruth would be lucky to on a MLB team now. Bob Cousy wouldn't even be on an NBA roster now. You add minorities to sports and it's completely different. John Kruk is probably as good as Babe Ruth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Again, Karl, your position comes from ignorance…

Feb 20, 2022, 11:18 AM

If Babe Ruth lived in modern times, he would have much better nutrition, workout regimens, practice habits, etc. He would have been stronger, faster, and smarter.
His hand/eye coordination was off the charts and would be at the top in modern times.

He would be lucky to make a team even with nutrition.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't like to think that way at all

Feb 20, 2022, 11:19 AM [ in reply to Re: Comparing eras is pretty useless. I mean you ]

I mean I would be lucky to get into Spartanburg Community College today

and I was able to go to Clemson on a scholarship back in the olden times.

Also, Karl, did you know the Babe one season had more

Feb 20, 2022, 11:21 AM [ in reply to Re: Comparing eras is pretty useless. I mean you ]

Home Runs than all the other Major League Teams Combined?

Evidently not….,

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

AND he was a great pitcher

Feb 20, 2022, 11:41 AM

Bengaline saw him pitch in person I’m sure, so he can explain this better, but Babe did stuff that only that one Japanese guy can do nowadays.

And? Yeah...I know more about every sport than you do. Everyone knows that simple fact you threw out. That goes beyond baseball by the way. You're dumb. No offense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We all love you, Karl, but you are so WRONG…

Feb 20, 2022, 12:09 PM

But hey, go ahead and spout your opinions on EVERY subject posted in the lounge and how your knowledge is superior to every one here…

But please don’t forget to take your bipolar meds, don’t know what we would do without you here.

Re: We all love you, Karl, but you are so WRONG…

Feb 20, 2022, 12:48 PM

When it comes to sports I know more than you. That part is a given. I am sure you know more about other things that I do not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct. Whatever it is that makes today's players bigger,

Feb 20, 2022, 3:46 PM [ in reply to Also, Karl, did you know the Babe one season had more ]

faster, and more skilled than players in the past, whould be available and apply to those players from the past if they played today. So, all of the players that Babe Ruth played with and against would be bigger, faster, and better conditioned if they were alive and playing in today's world. The average player then would be the average player now with all of the same advantages modern players have. They would hit just as many home runs as they would have similar physical traits and abilities. Babe Ruth obviously had natural ability that was far, FAR superior to that of any of his contemporaries. It only stands to reason that he would still have superior natural ability to most players today, as well. Superior training and nutrition today may close that gap to some unknowable degree if Ruth were alive and playing today, but to think he would not be dominant in today's game defies logic and common sense.
