Teams That Win Championships

I have noticed when I pay attention, maybe I am not paying enough attention in this area, but the teams who usually win championships never talk in advance about playoffs or winning a championship.Of course, we know the capabilities of this team and what they can accomplish but I personally don't go around bragging about it and I am sure most Clemson fans display the same. We just know we have a great team this year, it shows on the field, in the actions.
Champions and their fan base, coaching staff, everyone involved, know that the biggest game is the one being played that week. If you notice, championship teams never mention the big picture. They go day by day, or week by week and put complete focus on what is right in front of them. Clemson fanbase and coaches are doing a remarkable job this year with support. Anticipating some playoff that is going to happen in January, shouldn't be a concern or even mentioned in the media, in my opinion. Sure it is fun to get excited of the possibilities, once again, we know what this football team is capable of, so I personally enjoy the anticipation and the "glimpse" inwardly and looking forward too....
but outwardly, on the surface and ultimately, intense focus should be emphasized on each individual opponent that we (de)face. I think the Clemson Nation has been doing a pretty good job at keeping perspective. This is a special team, special fans and a special place. I look forward to next game. One more day and the season begins again. I am proud of what this team, staff and Clemson Nation has accomplished in this first half of the season.

I'm reminded of the adage, "Pride goeth before the fall,"

for while it is OK to be proud, it's usually risky to be prideful.
Dabo has done a good job reminding everyone that each game is our most important, regardless of opponent.
Older Tigers will recall the '81 season of which few expected us to excel, and all were incredulous with our success.
We considered each game to be a trap, for as we succeeded, each opponent wanted to be the one to knock us off the throne. Braggadocio only serves to make a fall worse, and hence, why a heaping, helping hand of humility added to hope are always better choices.
Excellent observations on your part.

In the '81 season, there was no hype for Clemson in the preseason. We struggled with the likes of Tulane early on. It wasn't until the second half of the season that momentum really got going and we started making an inexorable climb in the polls. Even after making it to #1, everybody except the Clemson faithful firmly believed Nebraska would "right the ship."
We have no such anonymity these days. But I do like how Dabo keeps this team humble and hungry. We haven't won anything until we win everything. And that means coming to work every day.

I was at that Georgia game in DV when we knocked off

the returning national champs, and I clearly remember the sheer excitement among the Clemson faithful.
The AP ranked us #14 afterwards, if I recall correctly; yet, few expected us to continue undefeated. The UNC game was a squeaker, and as I listened on the radio, I remember yelling words unfit for sailors.
Even when we were slated to play Nebraska, most of the pundits gave us little hope. Surprise! Surprise!
What was key was the guarded optimism among the team and fans that year, for no one approached any game with overconfidence.

And I do believe that was the key to the whole season. That team was hungry and never felt they had accomplished any prize until the final whistle of the Orange Bowl.
Dabo has this team embracing the same mentality. They are a hungry bunch and if you're going to beat this Clemson team, you're going to have to bring it because this bunch ain't gonna give it to you.

I agree. I really do not like to see post where Clemson fans were bragging or boasting how bad we are going to beat someone. I do not like to read football players bragging on how great the team is and start looking ahead. This game scares me, N.C. State scares, FSU scares etc. I didn't think Clemson would be 6-0 at this point in the season. I thought a loss to N.D. or G. Tech would have marred our record. I like Dabo pushing the fact that this week is the most important game of the season. If we lose, we can still win our division. Playoffs are probably out of the question but there is still a lot to gain. A one loss season.....well; it's better than two losses.

I think Dabo has this.

I think the lugubrious and #######ing rant are tools he used not only to say 'look at Clemson,' to the world but also for motivation for our boys.
The only complaint I ever had about Dabo was his lack of ability to control the emotional temperature of our team. Remember back when our guys though they couldn't lose, then after getting slapped around the believed they couldn't win. Now he has them at the right temp and is able to maintain that with little to no variation.
As far as fan pride, that's a personal problem.
