76er looks at 60's Clemson tunes ----

Who knew 76 was still viable at this hour. I am glad to see I roused my friend.
Anyone is free to compare the Beatles to the Stones, even a kid who has no clue.

I had 50 mint Beatles albums (all different) on my man cave wall, probably worth more than my house.
I own all the tunes from both groups in stereo and mono where available. I am a fan.

=========================================

76er -->

"comparing the Beatles to the Stones, most will say it is comparatively even. But, here's the thing. The Beatles put out their entire catalog, as far as Amurica was concerned, in LESS THAN SIX YEARS, 1964-1970. 1970 is only included because of the release of the Let It Be LP, which happened after the group was already done.

The Rolling Stones are STILL rolling, 50+ years on, trying to catch up to those six years. As John Lennon said in "I Dig a Pony",

"I-I-I-I roll a stoney
Well, you can imitate everyone you know
Yes, you can imitate everyone you know
I told you so...."

That is all, Carry on!"

==============================

I assume you want others to reply?

No band has or will equal the Stones as to ###. At 80, they can still sell out any venue if they choose to do that.

Beatles had a short span and near the end could not tour as they could not produce their intricate sounds live.
Their studio albums make the Stones look amateur.

Beatles tunes are so good that anyone can do them, and all do. Few cover Stones tunes as ??

Man for man, Stones musicians are better than Beatles musicians. That is not to say individual Beatles did not improve greatly over the years. They all are stars.

Stones are all about Mick, Beatles are more. Keith gets some fame, but not on that level.
It is kinda impossible to compare them as they are very different, but some like you and I have fun with that.

No one in our life time is a Mick, or even near him. The Beatles were the most popular thing in America since Gene Autry. You kids forget Gene and Elvis.

In my day bought all those and also James Brown and The Supreme's.

there is a whole bunch of "filler" on their albums, especially later ones. But when they are good, they are "The Best Rock and Roll Band in the World". You really can't peg The Beatles as Rock and Roll, they could, and did, do just about any style, and invented a couple. Some Stones that I love:

Mothers Little Helper
She's a Rainbow
Ruby Tuesday
Honky Tonk Woman
Tumbling Dice
Gimme Shelter
Brown Sugar
Heartbreaker
Angie
Miss You (which Lennon said was a ripoff of a Beatles song, I don't know what one he was referring to)
Mixed Emotions (Whenever wifey gets too wordy, I sing her the opening line "Button your lip, baaaby")

That gets mixed reviews.

:)

I saw the stones in Charlotte several years ago at BOA stadium. Still sound great and Mick was getting around on the stage! Gimme shelter and Miss you are my favorites. I’ve never cared for the sound of the Beatles. They came to the USA the year I was born (64). Still not a fan but I did like some of the solo music by Wings and George Harrison.

I learned to look forward to the one Keith Richards song they put on their albums. People used to give me lip about liking them, but they are philistines!

Little T&A

Probably more, but as I was scrolling through Spotify, I saw Let Me Go. One of my Stones favorites. Give it a shot.

Also ran across the little morsel below a few years ago about their album Dirty Work. Makes me think of the peach slacks and white jacket I wore to a sorority party. What was I thinking?

In 2005, Pitchfork included the album cover in their list of "The Worst Record Covers of All Time", with Brent DiCrescenzo saying that no other cover "goes so far to completely tarnish the reputation of a Valhalla-ensconced band while demonstrating the crushing awfulness of 1980s aesthetics".

1 minute of 'Let Me Go' could change that. I'm 77 but my kids got me hooked on Van Halen, Guns & Roses,
AC/DC style

I like both and have seen the Stones in person. Just one comment--the Beatles quit touring in 1966.

I had a lengthy discussion with a music engineer. He explained the Beatles were the most influential group of our time. They did things musically that had never been done before. So I give the nod to them. However, as far as longevity there can only be one correct answer.

However, I do love my Southern Rock.

Both at their best was before my time and never really cared for either one of them. Generational differences I guess.
