Talked with a friend who has a son that’s a HS kicker in the ATL area today about Gunn’s issues with FGs. He said that they have noticed 2 things that may be causing him problems.
1). The holder has the ball too vertical and that makes it difficult to get the elevation needed.
2). Gunn is trying to pulverize the ball , hitting it “fat” and causing it to knuckle.
IDK anything about this other than the kid is a SO. at a big time program, goes to kicking camps and is getting a lot of attention.

This can’t be a case of first impression. Don’t we have a coach that can handle this? They scouted and offered him a scholly. Coach him up! Treadwell said “ put your heart through the goalposts and the ball will follow.”

You don’t want any backward lean. Most kickers prefer it vertical, slightly toward the holder. If anything, some prefer it leaned forward to create a bigger sweet spot since your sweeping motion is what creates height.

His get-off time is slow as well.
Seems the holder has the ball on the ground a long time before he kicks it.
