Maine handcuffs Tigers in Monte Lee debut
Different year, different coach and different opponent but it was the same result for Clemson baseball Friday night. Maine took advantage of a ball lost in the lights to score the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh, taking the luster off the head coaching debut of Monte Lee in a 4-3 season-opening triumph at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. A one run win when Clemson loses the ball in the lights is a fluke and should not be taken seriously! Plus, everybody knows that Northern schools are further along early in the season since they have been practicing in warm and dry buildings since the weather outside sucks so bad. Southern schools, on the other hand, have been practicing outside in cold and wet weather conditions! I'll bet that tomorrow, good hitting will beat good pitching and/or vice versa...What say Yogi?

The point of my comment in case it was missed is the same as Yogi's--you just can't figure out sports. The teams that you think should win don't always do it. Clemson should have an advantage being in the south with better winter days and very little snow, but it didn't work out that way yesterday. And, I'm sure that our guys as well as Maine's have access to a football indoor practice facility on really bad days. I'd like for Monte to have started with a win, but he will be OK--he has been a very good coach and will make us proud.
