Suspicion that a deal has been brokered……

11

Aug 7, 2023, 7:09 PM

Trying to read the tea leaves here….

Last week FSU laid out to the ACC and ESPN that Clemson and FSU had offers fROM the BIG 10 and intended to leave. Today’s move to add Stanford and Cal makes me wonder if ESPN has brokered a deal to keep Clemson and FSU by moving them to the SEC and appeasing the ACC to let them go by adding Stanford and Cal to replace them but keeping the same current ACC contract.

Does not seem likely.

Doesn’t seem likely but I thought the same thing!

Let’s see!

I don’t think FSU nor Clemson had a single overture from the B1G

All that speculation about the B1G was from cr@p source(s).

ACC & state of California school discussions are being held because both sides are weak and figuring out a way to stem the bleeding and/or falling further behind.

I don’t think Cal or Stanford join the ACC.

But if you are right in the end….well heck, I’ll send you $100. Because if you read these tea leaves correctly…then you got some zen insight gift and deserve compensation.

this seems to be the best way to go, the more I think about

it...

1. helps find a home for 2 of the PAC schools

2. continues to pay ACC what they were getting with FSU/Clem

3. ACC gets money from Clem/FSU for leaving ACC

4. Clem/FSU get their media rights back and go in at full share

5. SEC adds 2, and goes to 9 conference games... which makes ESPN a ton more money-- and the schools as well.

Sounds great for everyone except the remaining ACC schools. Replacing your top 2 brands with leftovers nobody wanted is not going to appease the rest of the ACC. I can’t see Miami, UNC, VT being happy with this. I think it’s great, but I’m a Clemson fan. Sounds to good to be true.

Only way I see that as even close to feasible is with a 4 for 2 deal. All 4 remaining PAC schools into the ACC, Clemson and FSU to SEC. ND might be intrigued to maintain Stanford as part of their 5 game football arrangement. Now on the other hand, I don’t think UNC and Miami are going like this deal because they are still stuck in the ACC with GoR intact.
