About the PAW

Sorry to hear about Antonio, he did the Clemson family a great service. But as an aside, I wish Clemson would be more agressive about defending the Paw logo. Here in Kentucky you see the paw painted blue and used for UK all the time. I remember a few years ago Missouri actually used a yellow paw on their uniforms. I know that actual legal action is difficult, but I think the school could formally object to the use of the Paw by writing letters, etc. I know they do that occaisionally, maybe they need to do it more often. Just an observation.

Without the telltale "hook", it isn't a Clemson Tiger paw

Most of the schools or teams that use a tiger paw logo in some fashion eliminate the hook and that subtle change is apparently enough to keep the Clemson legal department at bay.

And I think we let highschools use it and get away with it

because it's basically exposure for Clemson.

All college logos are coopted by high schools

much like little league teams use big league logos. I'm only concerned about other colleges. And I think we have not been aggressive enough in pushing back when the paw is "borrowed."

of the Tiger Paw since policing its use is extremely difficult provided schools don't try to profit from the use of the copywritten image.

It's now too late legally to trademark our paw........

design. That should have/could have been done within a specific number of years after we introduced it but we failed to act. Now, the paw is no longer protected by trademark rights. It's our fault.

Hi Henry,
Neontiger here. I just wanted to say that your motion picture of the individual busting the Columbian Bam Bam at the bottom of your post is one of the funniest things i have ever seen, and brought great joy to my day.
This Buds for you, Henry.

Im pretty sure it is a registered trademark. But . . .

it has to be OUR paw, not just any paw print. That means it has to have the hook etc. . . My point is that we could complain everytime the paw is used by another college, and maybe shame them into relenting.
