Newfound appreciation for the Myrtle Beach experience

On day 3 and final day of staying in a very nice house my SIL picked out on Folly Beach that yours truly is paying a third of for the entire week.
I’m looking wistfully S towards our usual rendezvous on Kiawah.
If SC had a caste system, FB would be a mecca for the Untouchables.
I have never seen so many tattoos on so many people wearing abbreviated clothing not covering near enough consequences of consuming large quantities of fast food.
Get me outta here Percy!

I worked on Folly when I was in high school. It was like going back in time to 1974 when you went over that last bridge.
But then the yankees and money showed up, and it turned into, well...Folly Beach. I do still enjoy the rare visit out there however.

When I lived on James Island and we wanted to go to the beach, I went to Edisto. Took basically the same amount of time to get to either.

Like you observed, pale fat people with a bunch of stupid tattoos have swarmed them like a bunch of locusts. It's like the people with really bad genetics are taking over all the fun things in society.

to a couple of coworkers talk about the cost of staying for a week at some of the Myrtle Beach campgrounds. For the money these people are spending to hang around a campground for a week, they could have gone to Greece with bengaline and fought Koreans over eggs. The day I spend $5000 to haul my own hotel room to Myrtle Beach for a week is the day I need to start drinking kerosene.

I thought about buying an RV earlier this year

Then I got into the realities of that, and knew I'd be selling it in a year. I'd prob never use it, and just end up getting hotel rooms or renting a house where ever I really wanted to go.

We have no need for a large SUV, we've been looking for a reasonably priced teardrop...just a bed on wheels with climate control and the rear kitchen deal for making coffee and storing snacks. Used models are near impossible to find without traveling a long distance, and when you do it seems the camper industry is mirroring the automotive industry on pricing. Weird, because those things can't claim a lack of computer chips as a reason why. If we go on a long vacation, we're going to stay in a hotel or Airbnb, but a camper for short-burst concerts and festivals around the Southeast seemed like a great idea. Unfortunately, we started looking just before Covid and the pandemic seemed to have caused a shortage and price hike on these.

The interest rate doubling has crushed them, and none of the people they sold RV’s to in 2020 can afford to trade them in now because they’re so upside down after playing sticker plus a premium back then.

I'm still thankful I live near the beach in CHS

But... as you and others said, it's nowhere near as enjoyable as it used to be. Sullivan's parking is a nightmare although at least still has some semblance of a local feel. IOP is overrun; Yankees want to make this a private beach. I don't get to Folly much anymore but it's certainly not the paradise it used to be.
I used to always be a beach over the pool guy, but not really anymore. If I had stupid money to spend in CHS, I used to say I would get a beach house on Sullivans or IOP. Now, I think I'd opt for a nice home on the Wando River near a golf course and have a boat and a dock.
Someone put armed guards at the entrance of Edisto because it's probably next.

beach hater.
There's nothing relaxing about carrying all your crap down there and everything getting covered in sand. Too many nope critters in ocean to relax in the water, and even then you've gotta worry about getting swept out to sea in a rip current. When the water is warm enough to enjoy swimming, it's unGodly hot.
There's nothing more boring than just sitting in a beach chair getting skin cancer.
I tried hard not to let my displeasure of the beach rub off on my offspring but they also see no benefit to going to the beach when they can have a nice relaxing swim in their own private pool with endless snacks and beverages I didn't have to tote.

Kinda boring just sitting there, dealing with everyone else's kids, and their plastic they leave behind. Add to that no drinking allowed in CHS on the beaches..it kinda sucks. I used to like walking my dog on IOP in the afternoons when it cleared out though. But it was amazing the amount of trash left behind.
I'd rather drive my boat to it and get away from the unwashed masses. The sand bar behind Sullivan's Island used to be my go to hangout, but since they dredged the ICW and changed the current patterns, the sand bar is now just a 6' high extension of the beach...and Sullivan's Island cops.

I didn’t need ###### before viewing those pigs. That may not be the case now and I’m not sure if the standard dose prescribed can negate the harm done now.
Oh the humanity.

Reminds me of my teenage years, growing up in late 80’s Daytona Beach.
Bike Weeks and then since that wasn’t enough …..Biketoberfest.
