Speaking of banks who are horrible...

When I bought my lawn mower last year, they had a two year, 0% interest thing going on, so I was like "Hellz yeah, gonna keep my cash brah". It started off being through GE capital, and I've never had a problem. I've been paying well more than the minimum every month just to go ahead and get it paid off, never been late, etc.
Whale, evidentially they changed names, or banks, or something...Because it's now going through Synchrony bank, who has no grace period and zero tolerance for late payments. So, here's how it works:
They send you a bill, and you literally have to send a check the next day after you get the bill, otherwise, you run the risk of not allowing 7-10 business days, and they DGAF about any of your excuses. For instance, I got my bill yesterday, my payment is due on the 12th....And it cannot even be one day late.
I was ONE ####### DAY late last month, and they charged me a $50 late fee. I mailed the check two days after the bill came in. My remaining balance is only $200, are you kidding me? I called and raised hell, and got it dropped finally, but I'll be paying that #### off in full this month and will be done with those sleazy #############. Oh, also, they'll "wave the fee this one time", except they tack that on to your minimum payment. So, while it does still go towards the principle and it's not extra, you owe $50 more than the minimum. I can see that putting some people in a tight spot.
Stay away from Synchrony at all costs.

They aren't reasonable with their timeframes. I do not think they check the mail everyday. After talking with the lady, even if the check comes in on time, they cannot guarantee it will get processed by the due date, and that's your problem. It is border line illegal what they're doing.

I pay all my bills through the vendor sites. I take one check a month to the bank for my car. It feels as though I'll do this for the rest of my life.

That autodraft stuff is what I really stay away from, no thanks, you can't have access just to draft what you want out of my account.

Back in my college days, sending checks was the way it was done.
One day my card got rejected at 2 places so I knew something was amiss. I got my check book out to find the evidence that I had indeed sent a check up...and there it was just looking right back at me. I managed to write it out but never get it in the envelope. I was really quite mad at myself. I think they refunded me the late fee though, being my first mistake with them and a couple of years paying only the minimum payment.

unless you move out of their district. They will cut your water off if you're 2 days late, charge a late fee, and a fee to turn the water back on.

$3500-3800. Last one cost us +/- 1500 repairs when the house was 20 years old, so if you divide $4000 (high estimate) by 15 years (low estimate) then it is about $22.25 per month for water. Septic is a good bit more for installation, not sure of exact numbers and we never repaired it at the last residence.

As in a lot of times it didn't go through, etc. I wouldn't have used it anyway, though. I'm old school, I prefer sending checks in the mail.

about 8 years ago. Exactly same situation. Payment had to be mailed the day the payment coupon arrived or it would be late. This particular "bank" had no method of telephonic or online payment - only via snail mail. Also, could not get anyone on the phone to complain to without waiting - literally over 1.5hrs.
I've also had experience with the "Synchrony" bank. I have a Banana Republic card that was with GE and is now "Synchrony." I won't be using that card any longer.

similar to mine online. Apparently, they go above and beyond to try and keep you indebted to them. Oh, and when I called to dispute the charge, I got a lovely lady from India who I could barely understand. She tried to lecture me on paying on time, which irked me, considering I am never late on any of my bills.

They tried to charge her for the last month she had paid the old owner along with late fees interest etc
Took 6 weeks and the threat of a lawyer to straighten it out.
Needless to say we chopped up that card

What is a check, and how do you mail it? I pay everything online on the exact day that payments are due.
