Since the wreck, there hasn't been a single major commercial ship lost in the Great Lakes. Between 1816 and 1975, at least 240 were lost.

Read a few articles about it. Pretty crazy a ship that size could sink in a lake but to be fair Lake Superior is essentially a fresh water ocean. Estimated 35 foot waves crashing over the side.

- Its shoreline is longer than the U.S. east coast shoreline
- It can fit all the other great lakes inside of it, combined, plus two more Lake Eries
- It holds 10% of the world's fresh water
- A sihtton of ships have sank in it, and it's so cold, that the bodies are still preserved in the depths.

I’m fascinated by huge freshwater lakes. Lake Baikal (2nd largest) is the only lake with a species of exclusive freshwater seals.

Lake Tanganyika is the 3rd largest lake in the world by water volume, it is in Africa and formed as the two continental plates pulled apart and still are being pulled apart. It is almost a mile deep at its deepest!
