Masters, PGA Championship and US Open…..what is the most prestigious and who cares and who is the “real” champ after the year is done. As a non-golfer, they seem like Halmark Card Holidays. Something to spend money on.

It’s a good reason to drink a beer and possibly take a brief nap.

That’s why they replay the wrecks over and over. Just in case you missed it.

I think most US golfers (and most Intl) will say The Masters is the biggest honor.
My take is the PGA is the least prestigious but still a Major.
Real champ is either who is #1 in world point rankings e d of the year?

Masters- crown jewel in golf world wide, no dispute. Historic museum like course, like playing golf on a Rembrandt, with all the worlds best golfers. Win that…you da man.
US Open - USGA governed, which is the governing body for all us amateur schmoes, they typically select an extremely difficult course and make it harder by growing the rough to stupid heights then bikini waxing the greens to speed them up. This is a true open, any Joe Schmoe can qualify by winning the sectionals across America. Watch Tin Cup, it explains this, plus the movie is good. Win this, you are the best US golfer period. Obvi it’s a major (there are only four), internationals love to come in and steal this one…extra little point of pride.
The Open - or British Open as we know it. Same concept as US open, but world wide and the oldest golf tournament in the universe. The Royal & Ancient Golf Club organizes it and they rotate around the baddest a$$ old courses in the UK. St. Andrew’s being the mother course. Win this…you da man.
PGA Championship-started as a national tournament for PGA teaching professionals, was a match play. Think one one one like the NCAA playoffs, eventually ending with one champion. Went to stroke play after WW2 some time and became unofficially the 4th major.
Congratulations Brooks Koepka, yer a tool, but still congrats on winning your 5th major. BEffin accomplishment.

to look at this, unless you do what Tiger did, win them all in a row. Still, winning a major is not the same as being the best by any means. Lots of somewhat middling players have won majors. Winning one of these is not the same as winning THE Super Bowl, or THE World Series, it is winning one event. LIV notwithstanding, winning the FED EX Cup is a better way to decide best imo. Or just take the guy who is #1 in rankings.
My take is that the US Open is top for most US golfers and British Open top for most UK golfers.
The Masters, being always played at Auuuuuuugusta makes it so unique that it indeed is #1, 2, or 3 on all lists and the PGA is always #4, even though it probably has the best overall field of players. It also, being 'round here, it tops on many locals lists and yes, on mine, but I think we are biased and I am fine with that. LOL.

The winner of The Open is known as “The Champion Golfer of the Year. “
It was always a hoot when the announcer at The Open or British Open announced the winner with a voice that only a eunuch could admire.
I protest. If I could play professional golf, I would most want to win at Augusta, and I suspect most American pros feel that way.
I suspect most of the international golfers would go with The Open.
Koepka can definitely play. 5 majors is no small feat.
