Somebody (too lazy to reasearch), explain this Roster105 thing +Portal

Real quick, somebody...
1. So the ROSTER is at 85 NOW, but goes to 105 July 1 - what's the logic there?
2. I thought the Portal #1 closed ~weeks ago, and yet right after that, guys were (have been) hitting the portal like made ever since? I know I missed something there.
APPRECIATE somebody straightening my ignorance.

1. July 1st is the start of the new NCAA athletics year. Athletics years run July to June since spring sports don't end until June (Softball and Baseball)

2. Graduate transfers can enter the portal at any time.

… I didn’t know about the Graduates exception to the Portal.

Seems logical the Football year should start FEB1

…. but now I understand that they’ve got to handle all the other sports like like Baseball.

and another one for you - as I understand it present NIL deals end July 1 and have to be redone. It all appears to be concocted to mess with

Most teams currently have more than 105 players, but they're only allowed to give 85 of them scholarships. Rosters are going to be capped at 105, but the scholarship limit is going up to 105 so the whole team can be on scholarship now.

Graduates can enter the portal at any time, and also players on playoff teams are allowed to enter the portal up to 5 days after their last playoff game.

I think they're trying to prevent teams from cheating the scholarship limit by giving walk-ons NIL deals equivalent to the cost of attendance. Some teams like Utah have been doing that.

Actually I was thinking of BYU, not Utah.

Current roster max is 120 but only 85 can be on scholarship

Once the settlement is approved by the courts the max roster will be 105, but all 105 may be on scholarship. It will be up to each school to decide how many of the 105 will get a scholarship or partial. I think conferences have a say as well.

The increase in scholarship limits is for all sports. Womens gymnastics increases from 12 to 20, mens baseball from 11.7 to 34.

This does not affect Title IX requirements. Currently mens soccer limit is 9.9 and womens is 14 to help offset Title IX costs. The new limit will be 28 for each. So the schools with the deepest pockets will have the best programs across all sports. Also, some schools will need to decide which programs to fund fully.

I think mens non-revenue sports will take a another big hit. Also, what happens to the Hunter Renfrows. How will the scout teams be affected ?

Will the ACC go ahead with 105 ,OR keep it @ 85 for 25 FB season, like the SEC ?
