Should Goodwin Be among the highest paid?

I certainly think he should be one of the highest if not the highest paid D coordinator in the country. What if Clemson set the standard for coordinator jobs in the country making our coordinators the most desirable jobs due to pay and working for the best head coach in college football?

Whoever votes NO state your reasoning. Especially with Riley making 2M+ when Goodwin is making 850,000. He should definitely be over a Mil

He is still playing with BV guys, he only has 1.8yrs of experience and he needs to prove himself when the BV factor is gone. The next 2 yrs will be very telling but with these freshman the future is bright although I am concerned about the DE and LB positions depth.
Don't worry, Wes will get a payraise this yr but will not be top paid DC.

of defensive talent. Wes has done a solid job, the next couple of years will tell the tale for him on sustaining a defense that BV built.
Riley was given a fool's gold mine of offensive skill talent to work with.

I don't think our offensive talent is anywhere near where it used to be, but I also think it's better than TCUs or SMUs when he was at those schools. The exception being QB at TCU last year. The change to a zone blocking scheme, due to injuries, the last two games has been a gamechanger for the offense.

the explosive playmakers that TCU had.
That's what we lack the most on offense.......explosiveness......as seen in our yards/play stat, we're like 80-90th in the country in that regard.

Riley had top offenses 3 years in a row.
Wes is in his 2nd season and this is his first top defense. I'd like to see what he does without Brent Venables recruits before doing something crazy like making him a top paid assistant. He's certainly in line for a 200-500k raise.
I also am still very concerned about him being the long term LB coach.

He needs to prove it against elite competition and we need to see how it goes when we get our next wave of starters in over the next few years. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a small raise though.

Honestly, who are the truly good offenses have we faced this year?
It's great to do well against outmanned opponents, but if our objective is to be an elite program again, we need to be able to excel against other top programs.

This weekend will be the best offense we will face this season. Offensive threats deep and RBs that can be productive. All that before considering the QB Maye. Let’s see how they do. As Dabo mentioned, they were very productive in last year’s ACC Championship so Wes has some proving to do.

Ga tech had a top ranked offense. As well as FSU at the time we played them. UNC is ranked 3rd in the country in total offense, so that will be a good test

We set records with Venables' contract here, when he was the highest paid defensive coordinator in college football.
We currently pay Riley the highest offensive coordinator salary in college football.
So we've already set the standard in the recent past for coordinator salaries.

I guess Florida State is not a good offense.
They've only got 4 first round picks guaranteed with Travis, Coleman, Wilson, and Bell.
Get your heads out of your arses.
We play power 5 D1 football. Everyone is an athlete. Everyone on the field is fast. Everyone at this level can ball.
And for the last two years you've tried to pick Wes a part because he's not Brent V. I don't think yall realize how fortunate we are to have Goodwin.

FSU is 23rd. To be a top paid assistant you better be able to shut down a team ranked higher than 23rd in total offense. He hasn't proven that yet even once muchless consistency. UNC is 3rd and we will find out a lot this weekend.

While I certainly think Wes has done a great job so far this season, I think I will wait until the end of the season to give an opinion. I can say without a doubt that he has solidified his defensive coordinator position for some time to come and deserves a raise, but to be one of the highest paid coordinators in the country, I just don't know at this point
The only thing that gives me a little pause in my response is the fact that Riley is making quite a while lot more than Goodwin while Goodwin is producing better results . This can be attributed to several things like defense having more weapons on offense , not enough time in his system to show desired results etc. But I do think it's worth evaluation

He should definitely get a raise but as others have noted, he still needs time to experience a full cycle that includes recruiting, coaching and developing his own players and not just a remnant from BV. The idea is not to just maintain what someone else started but surpass those accomplishments with your own.

Deserves a raise but does not need to be among top paid yet.
Riley has a Broyles award to earn that high pay rate

Maybe wait until after next year. In theory, the defense might be down. Especially at LB and DE. He’s had a great year this season with a veteran defense left to him by BV. This is only his 2nd year as a coach. He was a anylst or GA before being vaulted to the top?
I say he needs to earn his $$ through more experience with his own players.

If we pay him as if he's the best it will cause two problems. There's no way to give him a raise and people will always suspect that he has lost his initiative.
He will get a raise soon and often enough. Dabo isn't going to lose a coach over pay.
