NIL is broken

Dec 1, 2024, 9:48 PM

The nfl has salary cap. In order to level the playing field, we need a system to level the playing field for colleges . Clemson has a modest student count for undergraduates. The size of the alumni and hence money and contribution will be higher in bigger colleges.
There is something that needs to be done or smaller schools will just not compete. Not sure what is the solution but something is a mess with NIL.

NIL isn't a salary.
The money doesn't come from the school.
The NCAA can't interfere with it due to several federal court decisions.
NIL can't be capped.

Even if the NCAA gets a federal antitrust exemption, it won't affect NIL, just like the NFL salary cap doesn't affect the players NIL.

Why is this so hard for so many Clemson folks to understand?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

More to tue point, NIL needs a balanced set of guidelines.

Everyone knows how NIL works, Scok-monster.

Wrong on all counts.

Obviously the TLP doesn't know.

I'm a Clemson alum, you idiot.

So you have nothing pertinent or intelligent to add, Skippy.

2

Oh, it's very pertinent, Skippy.

You've been exposed as just another race-baiting hustler with an invisible axe to grind. You're the one that brought race into this for no reason other than your own frustration with so many others disagreeing with you.

You really are doubling down on your dad need to exploit other people.

You are an embarrassment to Clemson.
Totally.

I'm not an overly sensitive snowflake like you. I don't give a 💩 who disagrees with me, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

You're incapable of it. Just like you can't get anything on topic right, so you try to deflect by making it about me.

And again, I've obviously touched a nerve with your sensitive self.

You really are an embarrassment up Clemson. Duh.

Don't care if you're a Martian or the Siamese twin of an otter. You don't have to verbally attack everyone that disagrees with you.

It's weak. Just like all of the hate for the portal and NIL here.

Funny how many more TNetters agree with me since the SC game disaster.

Look around.

You are incorrect regarding the NFL and endorsements

Dec 2, 2024, 1:05 AM [ in reply to Apparently you missed the most important points ]

https://overthecap.com/collective-bargaining-agreement/article/14

Article 14 of the CBA deals with this exact scenario. No deal may circumvent the CBA.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not pertinent for multiple reasons

1

Dec 2, 2024, 1:28 AM

The 4 major pro sports have antitrust exemptions. The NCAA does not.

The CBA does not reference NIL at all.
If the CBA prevented it, them Mahomes l, for example, couldn't get NIL for endorsing State Farm.

The NFL has a team salary cap. Each team can structure how they distribute it however they wish. That's why Mahomes makes millions while the practice squad QB makes around the league minimum.

The current NCAA salary cap is zero dollars for individuals and teams.

The pro sports have drafts, trades, unions, and collective bargaining.
College sports do not.

Now who is “back stroking”? You said that, even if they got an exemption, it wouldn’t apply to NIL. I have always qualified my comments that the NCAA will eventually require an antitrust exemption to survive. I’ve pointed you to the pertinent language of the actual CBA. You were wrong.

It's nobody's business how much a college player gets paid. Nobody stops you from paying to go to the games.

Re: NIL is broken

Dec 2, 2024, 12:45 AM

The only way to fix it is to become the NFL and take away player choice in where they play. The teams have to control the roster or it can never be anything approaching a level playing field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You've got to be kidding.

1

Dec 2, 2024, 1:36 AM

You want a 131 team college draft compared to a 32 team NFL draft?
That would take a couple of weeks.

You want to violate the differing academic standards that exist?

You want to let Troy or Jacksonville State scoop guys we want in a draft?

You want to let a coach trade a college student against his will 3,000 miles away?

That's crazy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everything you mention was KNOWN BEFORE allowing this to happen

Dec 2, 2024, 1:55 AM

…and known by EVERY AFFECTED PARTY.

The present state of affairs is EXACTLY what the powers-to-be intended…EXACTLY.

Do NOT expect this to change in any significant way for at least 5–7 years, or until the bottom of the revenue model falls out from loss of both fan support and viewership.
