Who has a qualified Get-Back Man? If it's not a pkg deal then they don't qualify.

Several head coaches have been hired as assistants recently. Wonder if Dabo would try to make the same kind of move, find a high profile assistant, or go in house. I think we need someone proven but I really wish we were able to give Reed a shot. Just don’t think we can take that risk. Wonder if he aspires to that at all?

I sent in my mom’s resume. She called plays for us in peewee so she’s already more qualified than him when he was hired

Jim Leonhard? Rex Ryan has sung our praises often since his nephew played for us so…maybe? That’s just the tip of the iceberg though in regards to who would be more qualified than Coach Porkbelly.

As much as I would like the idea of somebody crazy like Rex Ryan, I don't think he would fit Dabo's culture. I mean he did scream "Now let's get a GD snack!" on that season of Hard Knocks.
I like Jim Leonhard. I just don't know if he can recruit the southeast. Ideally, it's somebody with Texas and Florida ties, the areas, not necessarily the schools.

How much do recruiting ties matter anymore? It’s mostly about money or culture not location…. I love Jim leonhard for next DC

Sure let’s grab another HS coach.
We need a real defensive coordinator like the caliber of Venables

Ed Orgeron. 63 years old and coached elite D-limeman his entire career. It's time for Dabo to go old school with Coach Luke! Start humiliating tbe opponent. Tigers are to dang soft!!

Sorry guys - Phil Parker isn’t leaving Iowa. He’s been there 25 years and has had too many offers to count. Besides - y’all won’t like his style. He’s much more similar to Goodwin in how his teams play than venables. Although his teams are fundamentally sound and tackle extremely well. But they aren’t aggressive with blitzes etc.
Leonard would be a great hire

Ditto on other same mention. Need a guy with extreme passion and get instant respect from the players. As for not knowing all the procedural intricacies ? Good supporting staff will satisfy that. Defense is all about passion and being in the right place and at the right time. Oh yeah, and being able to tackle.

If its inside the program, Mike Reed is really the best choice IMO and can't be considered a "Friends and Family Hire"
Outside the program, Phil Parker like mentioned above or maybe Larry Johnson from OSU. Parker is making $1.9M and Johnson $1.4M. Goodwin is currently at $1.4M. Getting Parker would need to be well over $2M which with rev share would be tough. Maybe we can get parker for $1.75M???

Jim Leonhard Randy Bates D’Anton Lynn Morgan Scalley
Any of these 4 guys would be a homerun hire. All 4 play a physical aggressive blitzing style of defense.
We have to get back to dictating to our opponent how the game is going to be played. Any of these 4 guys would accomplish that goal rather quickly.
