Don't let your kids play travel/club sports. I could have a nice truck right now.
Soccer x 2 Volleyball
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDGGGGGGEEEEEEEE
They better make school sports so I can quit paying this bullshid. Daughter wants to play club soccer too but we squashed that one.

tball this fall, I would imagine you're looking at 4-5 hour trips for this. Do you hire somebody else to attend to the third kid? I have no idea how families with similar age children make this work.

or wanted out.
Y ball was disorganized, but they had fun playing it. All games at the Y, sometimes at the one across town, but both within 5 miles or our house. One got into club sport until he hurt his foot. They both take after their dad, very unathletic. LOL.

was only once. We missed one weekend though, so the team went twice. Also Pinehurst. Those are 2+ hours away.
Volleyball wasn't going on during soccer season. It starts this weekend but travel isn't until January. Soccer starts back up in January. I think the chaos will start then, but Volleyball only travels like 3-4 weekends.
None of these teams are the BIG TIME travel, local 2-3 hour trips, all in-state or Myrtle Beach so far. Charlotte is even too far for these clubs at my kids' levels.

Have you tried introducing your kids to some of the Goth potheads that are in their school? It's way less expensive to have your kids sit in their rooms all day posting angry memes on social media when compared to youth travel sports, you know.

Input, there are a number of us on here who have run this gauntlet at a pretty ridiculous level. Depending on the sport, the kids age, and the goal of playing said sport, travel sports can be anything from almost mandatory to the biggest waste of money you can imagine.

I've got a traveling hunter/jumper equestrian.
Don't sign any of your kids up for pony rides. I did it at a weak moment and my freaking luck that the kid is actually really good at it.
HTH.

We did horseback riding with friends once before we went out west one year just to make sure the kids could do it before we paid to have an excursion (in Big Sky, I think). They loved it and begged to do it some more but we squashed that with a volleyball and a move to another city.

I have a great pig of daughter of riding on the nose of my longboard with me.
I'm really hoping this summer is when they actually catch on.
If you are ever trying to go on IOP, holla at me, I got an extra longboard you can use

Only got 1.5 more seasons of travel soccer until high school for my second. Our travel is not bad compared to others. Longest ride is probably 45-60 mins.

Track you get to pick and choose the events you can afford/want to go to.
Team sports however you are at the mercy of the coach, team mom, and club. I've coached long enough to have enough cred to say to the coach, hey, lets find a tournament in state or just play some friendly matches with club XYZ down the road. Tharealdonjuan does something similar with his, too.
I know Obed® has done national travel but ECNL or GA level soccer, the costs are INSANE. National travel to NJ (holla at my boy Murcielago) Washington state, California, Texas, etc. I have heard stories of 5 digit spending on one season from some of those parents. My kid plays in an ECNL club but thankfully, hasn't had the desire or want to to go that high.
I can honestly say, some people just have too much money

which was nice. However, some of the kids on his team SUCK. I could not imagine paying more than rec ball money if my kid was that bad. I think this is the first year of really sorting kids out (10U) and some of them will not continue. We may not continue, we were just tired of the crappy coaching at rec-league.

shoot I think the games are 50 or 60 minutes long anyway. I coached 12U this fall and we never traveled beyond Columbia except for the Wilmington tournament (which I chose not to go to.)
I guess it depends on what you, your wife and you kid want out of it. 10U is usually the introductory phase where lots of kids join in and kind of decide if it's for them. If he/she stay with it, 13U is where it starts getting more competitive and serious

happy to be out of that world and was much happier when 9th grade happened so they could play lax and field hockey at school. only downside was negotiating work and rolling to raleigh, charlotte, virginia, etc to play other schools.
had one that danced for 11 years and thank zeus ex handled dance mom. dance travel was beastly and dance $$$ was complete bs.
