That is a crazy number. It will take lots of new IPTAY members to keep up with that

This is why I always thought SMU would get to elite status. They have tons of money.

literally used a ton of those Oil Millions to buy their way in. Because, their deal says they will get ZERO TV revenue from the ACC for nine years, starting in 2024. But, the Oil Millionaires just chomped on their cigars, started pumping a few more barrels, and made that up in spades in about a week.

It has been proven so many times that they can't stop the funneling of huge money for college FB and the recruits mostly. Being that college FB has become a sport that can closely compete with the money that the NFL brings in, why not bring college FB to the same type of system that the NFL uses with the way teams can be put together. Do a draft with players coming out of HS where teams will have a numbered pick slotted by how well a team done the previous season. If they truly want it to be fair and even for every school, the NFL has it already figured out.

That is without about the best idea I have heard yet regarding the current state of college football. We know that the court system will not allow the NCAA or anybody else for that matter to impinge upon a players ability to make money through NIL. However, if the NCAA set up Draft system like the NFL, then every team has an equal opportunity to land the best players. There needs to be some kind of contractual commitment for a player to stay for at least one if not two or three years, but they’re free to make however much and IL they can make at the school they start with. After a year or two, then they are free to transfer. That might be at least a way to get us going in the right direction and much better than the current state of affairs.

Well, wasn't it bc of the money that their boosters were willing to give that helped them get what some called the death sentence. That school must specialize in finding oil and drilling for it bc their boosters sure do have a bunch of money to invest in their FB!!!

IPTAY received $135 million in donations in 2023. I know SMU has some wealthy boosters, but I doubt they will continue donating that much every year. Most of that money was donated the same week they announced they were joining the ACC, to help with the transition.

I know that. The point is, that's just "year 1". When they get rolling, I think the number will easily surpass $200M. Easily.

Nope...Clemson will be like the Milwaukee Brewers in baseball. They will have some talent, but a middle of the road payroll. SMU and Oregon will be like the Dodgers.

Nah, I honestly believe we are fading out. I hate to say that but just how it feels.
Not sure we have or will have the resources to get to where we were. Being in the ACC is not helping anything.

Agreed. I was hoping a move to either the B1G or SEC would help us on the revenue/recruiting front, but I don't see the ACC as a long term solution. Obviously the BOT feels the same otherwise they wouldn't have filed suit against the ACC...

Been a long time since I was this down on the direction of the program. Keep hoping to hear some earth shattering news but it would not surprise me if I do not hear anything of relevance.

Ridge, if we were in the SEC, who could we beat right now? Not wanting to start an argument, asking with sincerity. How would Clemson be faring today if we were?

Well in this case I’m not talking W’s and L’s. Looking at more monies. Honestly think it would be a little easier to recruit as well.

Any team around Texas and out West period benefit greatly with this NIL stuff. I almost feel like this mess was created just because Clemson won those 2 National Titles and competed for several more. No way "Lil Ol Clemson" should be doing that.

What if the NFL adopts the College Free Market
Dec 5, 2024, 4:00 PM
|
|
What if the opposite, the NFL paid its players based on what their fans would "donate" instead of what salary caps and owners and collective were willing to spend. It would basically be the free market and interesting experiment. Instead of buying seasons tickets and merchandise to enrich the owners to hopefully then invest it in the team, they instead pay the teams management to pay the players.
Obviously the NFL owners would never agree to this but maybe if enough players banned together they could start something like this LIV Football.
