Honest question

If you were a Kentucky fan, one of the blue bloods of basketball, would you be excited for the Pope hire?
Honestly, and not a flame of Brownell, but he would have been a more exciting option. We all know I am not a lifelong supporter of Brownell, yet still he would’ve been a more invigorating choice

This is the first time I've ever seen the words "Brownell" and "Exciting" in the same sentence, and I can say this because I am a CBB defender.

It would have shocked the Tiger world had Brad chosen to take the Kentucky job!

Probably not.
Although UK has great basketball history and tradition, they've only won 3 of their 8 National Championships since 1996. Before that, go all the way back to 1978.
When Calipari took the UK job it was considered a premier gig. It's lost some of its luster, mostly because they haven't been winning championships, and facilities.
Like College Football and ND, histrionics are great but when the majority of your titles are 50+ years old your reputation is bloated by the media.
Coaches know the real deal.

I think Kentucky fans aren't excited because they didn't get a media splash

coach, or one of the top proven coaches in basketball (like Hurley), but that happens all over the place. Many to most great coaches are happy where they are, making great money and having built what they have.
And are you questioning whether Pope or Brownell would be more invigorating for Kentucky specifically? Pope without question, he won a title as a player there. They're somewhat familiar with him vs Brownell, who has been a consistent winner but not NCAA powerhouse. Pope also has the allure of being an up and comer, which Brownell doesn't at this stage.

I really just don't get this sudden delusion that people have on here of Brownell being a good coach. Yes, he won three games in March this year, but for the most part the rest of the 14 years has been an up and down forgettable tenure, that up until these three games 99% of the fanbase wanted him out the door. He is not a good coach and the fact that anyone here seriously mentions his name in the same sentence as the Kentucky job is an absolute joke!

You are correct CBB is not a good coach, he is a very good coach. Calipari is considered an elite coach who has done less with more. CBB is a very good coach who has done more less with less based on any unbiased assessment.

KY boosters really wanted Cal gone

And AD had no plan to replace him. After several top coaches rejected KY, KY leadership got nervous & embarrassed and selected Pope, a young KY grad they knew would take the job.
