So if "illegal batting" is a 10-yard penalty from the spot

the ball ends up, then why don't we bat the #### thing 20 or 30 yards every time we punt? That is what I would have been working on for Special Teams all year. That and kicking the ball into the opposing teams' helmet every kickoff.

after Troy's long TD Run, they had to kick-off from the 20. They kicked it out-of-bounds at our 32.
The refs must have forgot they kicked it from the 20 because they didn't give us the ball at the 45 (15 yards past the usual 30 yard-line for kicking out-of-bounds). We got it at the 32 instead.

That was a strange call. I thought the play was dead once someone on the kicking team touched the ball, and the ball would be spotted at the point where it was touched. The Troy player appeared to bat the ball to keep it in bounds, and moving forward, so I don't know if that made a difference.

ball. That would have made the ball dead at the point he touched it. That may be why a 10-yd penalty wasn't walked off. However, the ref didn't explain it that way.

At least we didn't have the MAC officiating crew calling the CMU/OK State game

That's a stupid rule though. I agree that it's unacceptable

for the officials to screw up a call like that, but why in world is there an exception to that rule that wouldn't allow CMU to run a play there?

I have NO clue where all the others are going with their replies to you Ranger?!?!, HOWEVER, YOU are SPOT ON with your comment! That was/is the MOST RIDICULOUS rule** - it just can't be correct!!
**(Okay, well, other than admitting that the entire officiating crew screwed up a ruling on the intentional grounding penalty at the end of the OSU/CMU game, allowing CMU a play THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, thus giving Central Michigan a score they should not have gotten, and Oklahoma State a loss they should NOT have suffered...but to make things EVEN worse, the 'powers that be' refuse to reverse it!!??... hello?!?!?! ... but I digress....).
Anyway, back to Troy 'batting the punt' 20 yards down field. How do you NOT assess the 'batting the ball penalty' yardage assessment AT THE SPOT OF THE FOUL?!?! That just can NOT be right?? So we STILL lost ten yards on the punt...
Overall, and in addition to this call, that crew at DV had to be one of THE WORST! One if the poorest officiating performances ever (imho)....
...sigh!
