SLEEP DISORDERS SUCK

Aug 22, 2018, 11:05 PM

So here’s a story for all who had a rough day today. I called Moe’s Southwest Grill on Pelham Road and ordered a Burrito Bowl. I then drove down to Pelham Road to pick up the food. When I arrived and walked inside, I walked up to the counter to pay for my food and pick it up. The young lady behind the counter informed me that they didn’t receive a call in order. I quickly became irate and began yelling at the ladies in the store demanding my burrito bowl because 45 mins had already passed. Then they politely informed me that Moe’s was actually next door and I was standing in the Tropical Grille. I mean how embarrassing is that? I quickly lowered my head and apologized to the ladies and finally picked up my order next door. Ladies and Gentlemen, I’ve been struggling with sleep disorders for a long time now. Heck I’m working off of 4 hours in the last 3 days. That being said, GO TIGERS and goodnight. I’m going my butt to bed.

Biscuits and Gravy Y’all

25 years ago I took a rod I had purchased back to Wal-Mart

Aug 22, 2018, 11:13 PM

to have it replaced. They looked high and low for another one and looked for the serial number to check ALL OF THEIR records without finding it. I was adamant that I bought it there. So, Wal-Mart being Wal-Mart, they asked what I paid, and based on that, refunuded my 40 dollars.

A month or so later, I was telling my fishing buddy while on a trip to Russell, how great Wal-Mart was to refund my money. He said,"I'll say they were, because I was with you when you bought it at.............WHITE JONES!!....

When you wake up Chesty, maybe consider taking some Krispy Kreme donuts to the ladies that you might have offended.

And I'm sure Spud went back to Walmart and made it right. I mean, it's the CLEMSON gentleman's way.

Sorry to hear about the sleep disorders Chesty. My wife has that a lot, and I hate it for her. Me - I could fall asleep standing up, and seldom have trouble with sleep. I just have a million other issues. :)

With my brain injuries I am not able to take any sleep aids. If I do it could put me out for the long nap, and I don't need that at 35 years old. I'm too young for the long one.

Melatonin? I've been taking it since my soph year at Clemson 2 decades ago.

Its a hormone, so don't take it everynight. But 3mg 2-3 nights a week may help and its not going to knock you out.
Not my business, but I work in trauma ICU with TBIs on a daily basis. We use all sorts of meds without concern of "not waking up." So what is different about yours?

See if your family physician will prescribe Seroquel 50mg to

Aug 23, 2018, 9:13 AM [ in reply to Do what I do ..... Take a Unisom.... ]

take about an hour before you lie down to sleep. It helps you gather your thoughts and focus and just puts your mind at ease and the best news is it is NOT HABIT FORMING. It does have a tendency for some to gain a few pounds when you first begin taking it but you will put in a good nights rest. Make certain you have a good 6-8 hours to devote to sleep and I would try it on a weekend first to see how it effects you before chancing a weekday.

A couple of uses for Seroquel include help with nightmares, (for those of us who have had dangerous occupations now or in the past) schizophrenia, and seizures but these are for usually much higher dosages than you will need.

Now the disclaimer, I'm not a physician so ask your Dr about it before taking it to see if it is right for you. Also you might want to try a sleep clinic as you might have sleep apnea or another sleep disorder causing your problems.

Just telling you what has helped me in the past in hopes it might keep you from suffering needlessly. One more thing, if you think the evening might lead to romance skip that dose until the fun is over because once you swallow that pill romantic is the last thing you will feel.

You better stop being so stubborn by thinking this something you can handle on your own bc you can't. Insomnia is a sleepless disease that is curable, but not without trained medical help. This insomnia disease can and will kill you by a one time heart attack that will blow the back of your lovable heart out, or cause you to have a massive full blown stroke that will keep you on a machine until someone, your wife or someone in your family who loves/loved you enough to say, pull the plug after they have prayed for you to leave this earth in Gods graces!!! It happen to my brother that was exactly 11 months 26 days older than I, and this happen 10 years ago. He was a long distant truck truck driver that over a life time so many speed pill to keep him awake to keep the wheels turning bc, if the wheels ain't rolling there isn't any money being made. After he had to retire, he did know how to sleep after so many years of being awake. He was diagnosed with severe insomnia 3 months before his heart couldn't go any longer without resting for more than a few hours every couple of days. Go and get help Travis, your life depends on it!!!

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. I've battled sleep disorders now for about 15 years. I've lost jobs over it, and I've had lacking performances in my jobs overseas due to them. I've done all I can to get help from the VA. Sleep study after sleep study has resulted in very little improvement. I usually take a sip of whiskey at night and it relaxes my mind and allows me to sleep for at least 4-6 hours. However, lately I've been struggling to even fall asleep or stay asleep for more than 2 to 3 hours. This has flared back up for about 3 weeks now. It usually gets better. However, I've laid off of the whiskey and this is why I cannot sleep. Sounds cliché I know, but I am not able to take medications and even medical cannabis makes my symptoms worse. Nothing seems to help besides a drink of Old No.7 and I don't even like alcohol. Doctors have said that my brain is still healing slowly and over the course of time my symptoms should reside. I go annually to get brain scans and what not and there is signs of progress, but it is a slow process for sure. I know I'll never be 100% again, but at the very least maybe I can get some restful sleep on a more continual basis.

Hey my friend. I’ve dealt with this on occasion myself. Usually due to some highly stressful situation. In fact, dealing with it now (over a month now) as this situation hopefully passes soon. I know you mentioned whiskey, but a couple glasses of red wine seems to relax me enough for a 4-6 hr sleep interval. I hate wine, but it works sometimes. Good luck

Have you tried xanax, when I just can't fall asleep when usual tactics don't work, I will take a 1mg xanax, and I will sleep for 7 or 8 hours without knowing I'm in this world. But if you take them all the time, I will get a use to them and they won't work anymore. Over moving up to the strongest of the xanax, the 2mg, I just only take them when nothing else works!!!

Then xanax would be right for you, honestly they do work for panic attacks. But that would most likely call for a 0.5mg xanax during the day, and the 1mg at night about 30 to 60 minutes before you want to go to bed and sleep. You have nothing to lose by just trying to see if it works for you also, but you have a miracle to gain if it does work for you!!!

Actually the tincture he needs for sleep does have thc in it. Since he is retired and doesn’t need to pass drug test that would be no problem.

Please read the earlier comments. While I appreciate that suggestion, it really doesn't help at all. I get panic attacks on THC or any Cannaboid for that matter. Can't take them.

I've tried CBD oil with and without THC. Both cause massive panic attacks and dangerous spikes in my blood pressure. My heart rate reaches dangerous levels for several hours at a time. The only thing that works is Whiskey in moderation. That or red wine.

I rarely sleep well

Aug 23, 2018, 8:56 AM

It's rare I sleep for more than 3-4 straight hours. Once I wake up, it's very hard to go back to sleep. I can usually go back to sleep for a couple hours about the time most people get up. Luckily I make my own hours and generally do not schedule work until noon or so unless I'm really busy.

Tried about everything but nothing seems to work until I get really exhausted and finally just give out. The thc does the same to me - causes anxiety. Good luck!

I have been struggling with the same thing for a few years now and finally had a sleep study done which came back severe sleep apnea. I finally got a CPap machine to help my breathing about a week ago and it has done wonders for me. Go see your doctor.

Re: SLEEP DISORDERS SUCK

Those things suck. I have a CPAP and it causes headaches for me. It also feels like I'm choking when I finally go to sleep. I jerk out of my sleep and I feel disoriented and sometimes don't realize where I'm at for several minutes.

I have severe Sleep Apnea and I had a similar experience as

Aug 23, 2018, 12:28 PM

you describe. I was initially so opposed to the CPAP machine that I had the Surgery to cut out my tonsils, adenoids, uvula, and trim the soft palate. It didn't help.
It took about 2 months of fighting the CPAP machine before I figured it out I sometimes would wake up feeling like I was doing Karate on the mask.
I almost gave it up but I think I would be dead now if I hadn't stayed with it. I would've died in a car wreck or from heart attack or stroke.
For me I had to try a couple of different masks and ended up with one with little nasal pillows under my nose and chinstrap to keep the air from coming back out my mouth. A built-in humidifier makes all the difference for me as well. I also had to get the right pressure. At first I had to use the feature of my CPAP machine that would start with little pressure and then ramp up to the proper pressure. after I got used to that I could just start at full pressure.

Now I absolutely love the CPAP and my only regret was not going straight to it instead of the surgery.

Yes, you look like an android during them. I've had four sleep studies and I have hypopnea, Apnea, and Night Terrors. Of course, Night Terrors aren't triggered by dreams at all. It's essentially a panic attack in your sleep in which your nervous system senses changes in your brain wave patterns and it causes a freak out.

Re: SLEEP DISORDERS SUCK

Aug 23, 2018, 7:13 AM

Chesty your are not alone. I think just about every returning combat vet has some kind of sleep disorder - about every guy that I served with has some kind of trouble sleeping.

I've had chronic insomnia since my 2003 deployment to Iraq. After struggling with 10 years of sleepless nights and the inevitable after lunch sluggishness at work, I finally went to an Army Doc to find a cure. The Doc's typically try the "easy" things first like taking melatonin, no caffeine diets, no computer/TV viewing an hour before bed etc... My insomnia laughed at these "easy" remedies and the Doc eventually tried a slightly more potent fix by prescribing Doxepin. Doxepin helped me stay asleep but it always made me feel groggy for several hours in the morning. I took Doxepin off and on until I retired from the military but nothing really seemed to permanently "fix" my insomnia.

In retirement, I've found that if I really must get a decent nights sleep because of certain activities the next day, I'll load up on some Benadryl and have had good single night results with that. Benadryl is not an every night fix but you may consider trying it to see if it will give you some temporary relief.

The one thing I've learned about chronic insomnia - everyone seems to have their own insomnia triggers and what helps one person may not work for another. Your case sounds very extreme (much worse than mine) and I certainly hope you are seeing a Doctor AND the VA is compensating you for this...
