Lack of Pass Rush: an underrated problem

I feel like our pass rush is significantly worse this year. Wilkins is awesome but he doesn't have the speed of Lawson or Dodd. I don't recall us sacking the Pitt QB even once.

That hasn't been the problem. The main issue on defense is occasional lack of awareness by LBs on the pass, especially play action. Pitt had the perfect plan with using double tight end sets and getting our LBs out of position.

Our LB's (Ben Boulware) has killed us against the pass and is responsible for quite a few big plays bc he is too slow to set the edge against faster backs

Linebackers covering TE's and RB out of the backfield is what's killing us. Ben is a beast but lacks in coverage. Also it seems like the blitzes come in a second to late.

that's exactly the problem. The tight ends - and the backs leaking out of the backfield

we create most if not all of our sack situations by bringing 5 or 6.
so it's not the front 4 that are generating most of the rush.
it was different when it was Grady & Vic and Shaq & KD...
speed was different and the need to bring a LB to create rush wasn't as big.
Connor's long pass reception for Pitt was a direct result of the safety,
Muse in that instance, not filling behind a rushing Boulware correctly
and not picking up the back coming out.
bust and instant TD.
