Since the NCAAT expanded to 64+ teams in 1985

Clemson basketball has made the NCAAT just 12 times in 38 tries (32%). Here's the breakdown by Head Coach:
Cliff Ellis - 3 out of 10 seasons (30%) Rick Barnes - 3 out of 4 seasons (75%) Larry Shyatt - 0 out of 5 seasons (0%) Oliver Purnell - 3 out of 7 seasons (43%) Brad Brownell - 3 out of 12 seasons (25%)
Needless to say, making the NCAAT at Clemson is an accomplishment.
If you prefer to look at Overall Winning Percentage, we have finished .550 or above just 20 times in 38 tries (53%).
Cliff Ellis - 6 out of 10 seasons (60%) Rick Barnes - 3 out of 4 seasons (75%) Larry Shyatt - 1 out of 5 seasons (20%) Oliver Purnell - 5 out of 7 seasons (71%) Brad Brownell - 5 out of 12 seasons (42%)
This is our recent basketball history at Clemson. Learn it and understand it. It’s important.

That was also the first year of the “first four”. 50/50 chance any previous coach with that exact same team and record don’t make the tourney that year.

I'm almost certain it was said at the time that we were one of the last 3 at-large teams selected, so we would not have made it had they not expanded that year.

This evidence refutes prior claims about the current coaching staff. I'm sure it was accidental. Thank you for exposing, oh uh, clarifying the state of affairs within the program.

To be fair, but two of the previous 3 coaches bailed out in the dead of night and badmouthed Clemson of their own accord. Both probably would have been given more time had they not run off. The other was Larry Shyatt, who got 5 years more than he deserved.

This is irrelevant. I need to know more about our under performing football team and coaches.

The problem is that all the more successful coaches probably had the band at away games. So it’s not a fair comparison.

that Brad has outperformed / overachieved in comparison to our modern era coaches but these numbers look like he is actually worse than anyone not named Larry Shyatt over that span.
Could you remove the comparison approach please so that Brad's results look better?
TIA in advance.

I would also add that the quality of teams has deteriorated during that timeframe. Watching them, I believe the majority of Cliff Ellis teams that did NOT make the dance, would have a much better record and success than the past 12 years under BB.

Makes you wonder what Barnes would have done with 12 years. I also firmly believe that the ACC was much tougher (therefore harder to win) 10+ years ago.

Some of us are really inspired by brad and the way he profits from mediocrity. We wanna hear from him and his supporters about how much we suck, not this stuff about other coaches doing “better” than him. Now my whole day is ruined
