HS recruiting Question

I see we are getting a lot of interest from elite players this year. We did the same last but most decommitted due to Daboâs NIL policy. I believe he changed the policy of upfront payments to guys in the portal but has he changed for HS players? I donât expect us to be in a bidding war but thinking if we pay a competitive sum, the other factors in our favor will yield a great class

Knowing that Clemson will again have a defense, excites both defensive AND offensive recruits !

Jstone, I'm not so sure that money had as much to do with our de commits as T-Net thinks it does. Maybe we could have kept a couple by offering money, who knows.
Seems the more cryptic info that trickles out from the players quotes, imo it was our coaching and on field performance. Hope it was anyway.

You may be correct but I use our retention policy as a guide. We made a big deal that our collective was a driving factor in keeping our current roster intact for 2025. Itâs hard to imagine there is not an equal impact in terms of the collective paying HS players to sign with Clemson. The money offered to blue chip players out of HS is simply too great to overcome using a promise of future payments should they perform at the college level.
I believe every HS signee gets something from Clemson (letâs guess by using $15k). If another school offers $350k to a high 4* recruit, it would be very difficult to get their signature for $15k. Pretty sure I would go with the bigger bag. I do think Clemson is a very appealing program so if we offered $250K, we might get the commitment.

Yet we did not make his top five. Paying a guy like Sanders $2M+ may not be realistic for Clemson but there are plenty of 4* guys at a much more reasonable cost

Any serious college football fan should abhor the way the NIL is taking shape. Personally, I have no problem with any player making money off their name, image, likeness, but the bidding war is ridiculous. If colleges don't have a solid NIL coffer, you won't see them in the top 5 teams anymore.

I am chuckling a bit at the fact that it seems to bother some people so much.
I mean, itâs not what the college game was intended to become, but neither was paying coaches 7 figure salaries, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on facilities, and having dumbed down admission requirements for athletes. Yet I recall virtually no complaining about any of those changes when they occurred.

Our current class is a joke ranked in the mid 30s. Will never get back to elite status with a bunch of 3 stars.đ¤ˇââď¸

Clemson does not have endless money to out-bid a school that is willing to pay big bucks to HS recruits. Bear in mind that some of our âlostâ HS recruits such as Tae Harris (who openly put himself out for bid instead of honoring the Clemson NIL package and commitment) who ended up with GA Tech will be as likely to leave GA Tech as soon as he proves himself as a college star. Heâll stay with GA Tech only as long as he remains an unproven talent.
The advice here is to do your best as to what youâre getting, not just from physical ability but also from work ethic and a belief in gratitude towards those who had faith in you.
Staying with the Tae Harris example, Tae doesnât exude one of the above attributes.
Heâll abandon GA Tech if he reaches stardom. Heâll stay with the Pam if he turns out to be a so-so player.

Georgia Tech does not have deeper pockets than we do

when it comes to football and NIL. Not even close.
Our issue has been about Dabo's unwillingness to use NIL dollars to attract top talent. Given the fact that we got a couple of transfer portal players recently, who chose us over other teams who do use NIL upfront, I am optimistic that Dabo has changed his tune as it relates to high school recruiting.

Judge Keller: Why has Brownell not been able to recruit elite talent? Is it because he doesnât want to use nil to recruit? Is it because he is a mediocre coach?

Yes let's hope we will now use upfront NIL for high school recruits as well.***

It's part of the growth of both the NIL and recruits seeing the outcome of it.

Many of the new recruits to many NCAA programs over the last few years are aware of the disappointments of their predecessors with the NIL and portal system.
They're realized that being recruited by and signing with some of the top paying and successful programs doesn't mean that's where they will spend the next 3 or 4 years.
Perhaps it's become obvious that many of the top teams are willing to pay well then swap up for the next best player at the position in just one season. The grass is always greener on the other side of the field in many coaches' eyes too.
Maybe they are taking note of the hundreds of guys who were 'invited,' to transfer then ended up selling used cars.
Just because they get 4 or 5 stars by recruiting scouts doesn't automatically mean they are going to be great college football players.
