Shoutout on Mafah's 80+ TD run

Beautiful run - but I'm not sure if this was visible or mentioned on TV.
Once Mafah broke out, there appeared to be two App St guys that might catch him. On Mafah's left, Westco caught up with a one guy, got in front of him and effectively eliminated that threat by slowing down and obstructing the guy. I'm not sure that guy could have caught up with Mafah, but the effort from Westco was good to see.
On Mafah's right was where the real threat appeared to be. There was an App St defender that I thought was certain to catch him, but Antonio William caught up to the player and, like Westco, got in front of the defender and slowed him down.
Great play by both receivers that might not have been seen if you weren't at the game. This stuff won't usually make the headlines...but it'll certainly help this team get to where we want them to go.
Go Tigers

That was a great team play. Mafah is a force, but not the fastest guy.
The receivers are much faster and were easily able to tag along behind him to provide interference.
As needed Mafah will gain endless yards this season hitting the line hard and often.

The biggest threat after breaking through the line is Farmer, #4, the Free Safety. Mafah runs away from him before the CBs (#2 and #6) get shielded by our WRs.

Correct. Clemson had 6 runs of 40+ yards last season. Mafah had all 6. He can fly when he has to. He is one of those players that coaches call "Football Fast."

The effort of the WRs last night was markedly better. Looks like that group got the "message".

Regardless, it was a terrific run and the perfect play call for the situation.

Mafah has got some wheels! He doesn't look like it due to his stocky build but in an open field footrace he always seems to pull away

It was clear why these freshmen were getting open. 'They be nimble, they be quick.' They be dedicated too.
Maf be fast too but they ran him down.

You very rarely will have a long run like that without great WR blocking.

Jacoby Ford comes racing up from 5-7 yards behind him to lead the way with 2 blocks in the last 20 yards to secure the TD.
Granted, Jacoby was probably the only one that could lead block for CJ like that run 🏃🏾💨

I saw that on television. I made a comment to my wife about Westco’s speed. I don’t think mafia is slow, by the fact none of the corners could catch him, but Westco caught him and defended him.

Maybe mafia would be faster if he took the gun instead of the cannoli every now and then…

The slow downs weren’t needed. NADH topped 20mph on that run and nobody’s catching that in college. Xavier Worthy might have been able to walk him down.
I agree that it’s great to see WR blocking downfield and doing the dirty work that doesn’t show up on the stat sheets. Westco and Moore changed the dynamic. Most defenses were playing zero coverage and daring us to throw. The other receivers couldn’t get behind or create separation. Moore and Westco do. App State had to play two high safeties instead of adding two extra to the box and clogging the middle of the field. That allowed Williams and other receivers to show they are capable when we have a legit deep threat on the field. If Moore and Westco stay healthy look for CK to grow for 4000 plus yards!

It did not happen against UGA (at least I didn’t see it when I was there & got there when gates opened). And I did not see it pre game at all last season.

I was most encouraged by seeing Mafah accelerate past three levels of defenders on that play breaking out into the open. WR blocking is critical downfield as well on those as that's a long haul for a big boy - but dude showed a gear and speed I'm not sure I was expecting from him.
My buddies and I were noticing Williams and Wesco trailing there and sealing the deal. Great all around team play.
Go Tigers!
