They aren't saying we were overrated in the bowl game. They are saying will be the most overrated team to start next season of the bowl winners. Which means they are probably expecting us to be preseason ranked Top 5-10. Basically saying we could pull a USuC next year.

You could tell that when they talk about the OK game, but then mention about Morris being gone...did they not pay attention that he was already gone in that game and wasn't coaching it? And Stoudt's playing with the offense IMPROVED...

good point - what they should really be saying is that Chad Morris is the most overrated new coach.

writers really don't do a lot of homework when coming up with these lists. They don't take into account the philosophy of the coaches to give meaningful snaps to the 2s and 3s whenever possible. Even Coach V was confused his first year about putting in the young guys late in the game.
I'm not that worried about next year, it'll work itself out

no doubt we'll have a drop off on defensive production
Jan 21, 2015, 4:41 PM
|
|
there is nowhere to go but down... but we should have an increase in our pts per game as long as Watson is playing. So hopefully that mitigates for the defensive drop but in the grand scheme of things i don't think we drop horribly defensively. Still think we can manage a top 20 type group when its all said and done. WE still have BV at the helm. He'll have them ready.

Do we have a consistent pass rush materialize in the first quarter of the season? If so, we're going to go far.
If not, we're a 9 win team.

Sound familiar? Here is some pre-season 2014 stuff
Jan 21, 2015, 4:39 PM
|
|
Clemson is coming off its best three-year stretch in school history, recording 32 wins and an Orange Bowl victory during that span. The Tigers have to rebuild on offense with the departure of quarterback Tajh Boyd and receiver Sammy Watkins, but there is enough returning on both sides of the ball to expect another top-25 team. New quarterback Cole Stoudt has experience, and the defense is loaded with talent. And it certainly doesn’t hurt Clemson has a favorable schedule, which could allow it to win 10 games once again in 2014.
- See more at: http://athlonsports.com/college-football/top-25/2014-college-football-preview-and-predictions-no-21-clemson-tigers#sthash.vQdJ0o94.dpuf
OR
It will be a whole new lineup on offense for Clemson, which graduated star quarterback Tajh Boyd and two terrific receivers. The losses aren't as significant on defense, but they'll still be an issue.
Sounds ominous, but the Tigers have depth that should help replenish those losses, though the quarterback situation will be critical to success. Look for Dabo Swinney to give 4-star signee DeShaun Watson—who enrolled early and will be a part of spring practice—a chance to start right away. How he does will go a long way toward determining Clemson's season.

Talk about overrated. From Top 10 to 7-6 in 2014. LMAO. Now that the Spur is reenergized (guess that's what a few rounds of golf will do for the old goat) and is ready to lead the coots into battle, got to believe the SEC homers will rank them preseason Top 10 again in 2015.

Love it. This group needs some fuel with the preseason hype
Jan 21, 2015, 5:31 PM

they're going to receive over the coming months. They need to be told they're overrated, lacking talent/playmakers on D, and will field a miserable O-line. Motivation.
Hilarious that none of the teams from the two HIGHLY ve$ted-in conferences are mentioned on the list. Fox Sports is trying so hard make college football fans nationwide buy into the idea that the Big12/Pac12 football should be considered elite from top to bottom, which in turn, would of course increase the tv ratings when teams making up the aforementioned conferences are pitted against one another.
Check the rivals recruiting ratings over the past 5 years.
Baylor, AZ and K state rank 41-60
TCU, WVU, ASU, OK St., Stanford have all averaged around 26-40 recruiting classes in the country.
Oregon, Washington and UCLA average 18-25.
USC, OU, Texas and Clemson (10) have been in the 8-14 range.
So I'd say if any team should be considered overrated, it's TCU, Baylor, AZ, ASU, K State, WVU, Oregon and UCLA. Plain and simple.
LOT'S OF HYPE. These are mostly teams with very little depth and few talented skill players scattered throughout the lineup to provide electric highlights every now and again for the east coast to see on sports center.

I don't know, don't discount player development. TCU and Baylor seem to legitimately be better than their "talent" as rated by assorted online websites. Michigan State is another that does more with less

They also left off the Big 10... And remember, this is based off of bowl wins. Big 12 only had two wins, right? Maybe TCU will fall short of expectations, but they look legit.
I guess when there are 5 conferences and 5 "over-hyped" teams, a few conferences are bound to get left off the list.

Great Bulletin Board material!
Jan 22, 2015, 12:35 AM
|
|
I am sick and tired of this kind of flawed anecdotal analysis. Comparing Clemson's win over a previously highly rated OU team to one time win of OU over AL or even WV over Clemson is ridiculous. Both AL and Clemson made significant coach changes after those losses (Kiffin, Venables) respectively both - statistically to have been great hires (AL's OFF went from #32 to #9) . I guess when you start off looking at OU and West Virginia as your baseline, I should have expected an anti-ACC (anti-Clemson) bias.
Really? Georgia Tech soundly beats Mississippi State (who was No. 1) in their bowl and your conclusion is GATech must be overrated. Clemson pounds OU (once # 4) with a backup quarterback and new offensive coordinators - it must be a fluke, in fact OU and Clemson must have been overrated. You'll think you'd count a missing Deshean Watson as QB and the fact the offensive worked just fine with Morris gone as a plus for the win (Who picked Clemson over OU? Did you?).
You did notice Clemson has beaten Ohio State (2014), Scar (2014), LSU (2013), and Auburn (2013) in last two years, right? Doesn't matter. Or the defense, which still has its coach, has gone from #75 to #1 defense in two years. That is mediocre, right? Clemson with 10 wins in four years? Conclusion: must be a weak ACC - yeah, that must be the answer.
But keep on doubting us. It is great bulletin board material -- all I can say is we will see this time next year, [payback is hell].

With Dabo Swinney as current head coach, I would not worry. For the last four years, we have finished at the same or a higher ranking at the end of the season as the one that we started out with.
For example, this past year, we started at 16th and ended at 15th. In 2013, we started at 8th and ended at 8th (7th in another poll).
So, we have not been over-rated within this timeframe.
If Tommy Bowden was still coaching, though, I would really worry. We had many years where we would begin the year ranked and then end it at a much lower ranking than the initial one or even unranked.

Bogus, quick to post media garbage....peep this!
Jan 27, 2015, 3:56 PM
|
|
Okay I am going here. Go back and look at the bowl game footage. I always like to so I can see it with no blinders on. Here's what I found:
BIGGEST GLARE!!! He wears #10 and his name is Ben Boulware. If you remember, Stephone Anthony had to sit for a bogus targeting call against South Carolina. If I recall correctly, he is a Junior and will be back.
OTHER FEATURES: Okay so if you recalled a 3rd and 10 when Trevor Knight was running for his life, Kearse flushed him and who almost tackled him, Shaq Lawson....In the Vic Beasley "rocking chair" D-end position. In the Middle of the D-line was Carlos Watkins reaking havoc in the back field and some guy last name Dodd. Wiggins was flying all over the place, also had a pick on a screen pass. Mac shutting down his side of the field.
QUESTION MARKS (in my opinion): Who takes over Crawford's side of the line. We have options. Let's not forget, there was a kid that everyone raved about with the name Yearigin. He is still here and has had a year of getting in shape. There is also Ogundeko and Rogers. Scott Pagano and Jabril Robinson on the DT line as well. And what we have already here from January and getting in from NSD, we will have depth. The offense will be a year older and we develop an O-line that keeps D-Wat upright and allow the offices of Dye, Gallman, Brooks, Davidson, and Choice wreak havoc and allow Tay, Mike, and Peake get one on one coverage, opponents will have a lot to think about when game planning against us and they are too many holes in the ### for them to stop this flow....
I posted on here sometime ago I was worried about the future on defense and we all need to calm down a touch. But after re-watching the bowl game, I began to say to myself "we may possibly have the best defense in college football without the #1 experience!" Time for me to retract my statement of "Pumping the Brakes" and let this fully loaded 18-wheeler roll down the mountain!!!

Please tell me this is not the same group that had teams like USUC, LSU, Ole Miss, and Miss St in the top 10 at any time last year. Those teams sucked and had bad losses during the year. Nah - I'll stick to my own forecasts after listening to those idiots.
