Everyone just assumes that if the ACC goes nuclear option, and disbands the conference, that either the BIG or SEC will pick up Clemson. But, what if they don't? In this era when ESPN / Disney is making cuts right and left, who is to say that whatever new deal Clemson could negotiate outside the ACC would even be as good as what we have now?
That would truly be the nightmare scenario for us, being essentially homeless, or having to join the Big 12 as a fallback option. If potential travel in the BIG was troublesome, travel in the Big 12 would be a DISASTER.
Hopefully Nerf and the other Clemson Powers That Be are smart enough not to take us out of the ACC unless they for sure have an invite from either the BIG or SEC in their back pocket.

I believe Clemson is in a good spot. I think the Big 10 would like to obtain such a powerhouse program as Clemson within the SEC footprint and I think the SEC would take us in to prevent that. The same would apply for Florida State.

Travel in the Big12 would not be much different from the ACC or SEC if they were to take 4 or more ACC schools along with WVU, UCF and Cincy.

Without a guaranteed landing spot, or that 7 other Universities would make the same mistake?
When the GOR is broken, the 8 teams that do it will already have guaranteed landing spots for them in new conferences.
Serious mental gymnastics are required to assume that amount of idiocy.
Worst case scenario for Clemson is ending up the in either the BIG, or SEC.

Well at that point, we wouldnt be the only one and we could just make a new conference from the good of the ACC and cut a lot of the fat.
The overall revenue would go down (which would help ESPN) but the per-school revenue could go up (which would help Clemson.
If you have an 8 team conference with
Clemson
FSU
Miami
NCst
Louisville
UNC
UVa
VTech
That is pretty solid.. plus with only a 7 game conference schedule we could have 5 OOCs which would be enticing for ESPN or Fox to pay for. So if that is the worst case scenario.. we would be fine.

compensate Clemson for the losses of a conference payout. ND goes to one playoff and takes home more money that any other team gets from conference pay.
