Scrimmage Nuggets

Yesterday was an annual alumni BBQ at the practice facilities and getting to watch a scrimmage, they do them in the fall and this is the first spring I think it’s been done in a while. Anyways, the good stuff.
DJ looks like a completely different QB, literally. He looks at least 30 lbs lighter, is moving great and has a new zip on the ball. At the scrimmage last fall camp he looked nothing like this, the biggest take away then was the defense looked great and at the time we just thought his struggles were that— this year, defense looks great and so does he.
Cade is the real deal, if the DJ we saw today is the one we see in the fall, Cade will only be playing in the 4th quarters, if DJ gets stage fright, the yips or whatever during the real games, Cade is the real deal and a viable option.. already. Billy Wiles throws a great deep ball, was easy to see why Dabo singled him out earlier in the week.
Spector looks great. Will be a huge weapon this year, we missed him last year.
Zander’s hair is about down to his waist now, and he looks great, big kid.
#38 was really tall and playing a lot of safety for us, I looked him up and. I think he’s a walk on, played well and is really big, could be another Nolan Turner in a year.
Defense looks awesome.
O line looks huge.
Adam Randall made some plays, he will be a factor this year.
That’s all I got for the moment, if I remember any thing else I’ll pass it along.

Zanders got snake bitten last year, he was just starting to come into his own, but he has some tough competition now. He is a big kid for his frame, hard to tell with the pads on, but he was a bit of late bloomer that has blown up physically. I think he could have great season, he is fantastic in run support.
Adam Randall is another one I am excited about, he makes it looks easy and just plucks the ball out fo the air. He looks like another Mike Williams, but is a little more physically imposing as a freshman. We will not have to worry about drops with this kid, he should see the field early.

It's rare but I hate that happened to him. We probably need to put moth balls around Reeves if this becomes a problem.

Zanders got bitten on the shoulder, and I am pretty sure it was an eastern sword-tailed viper, not whatever pansey snake bit your uncle.

Was the event for football alumni or alumni in general? Thanks for the notes.

Football alumni…. Dabo made a nice joke about moving the practice indoors today for the grandmas, grandpas (of the recruits that were there, big recruiting weekend… ) and all the old guys in attendance since it was cold.

Nice to have an indoor facility for that to ensure the weather doesn't make it difficult. Thought somewhat the event was for football alumni versus high level IPTAY donors, but wasn't certain since was not familiar with it. What position and years did you play?

Here I was trying to figure out how the BB team scrimmaged the Denver Nuggets. Ha.
But I do appreciate the information. DJ sounds much different and for the better.

Mafah is huge. And fast. Wow, would he provide a quick hitting "FB" threat in a two back set.

I really hope that DJ gets it together the way he was against BC, and ND in 2020. The same or better will be great.
I hate to throw salt on your opinion of what you saw of DJ this spring but, any player on the field could look better than DJ looked last season in live games, especially without any fear of being tackled, or blind sided from the side, or from behind. Quarterbacking would be a really easy position to play if touching the QB was against the rules, and resulted in a huge penalty!!!!

Well I was comparing him to what I saw, and we were hearing, from the same atmosphere a year ago (a controlled indoor scrimmage). I wasn’t comparing him to what we saw during the season last year. Like I said originally he’s moving better than we’ve ever seen him move and the ball is coming out of his hands differently, even better than what we saw vs BC and ND. That said, if he can’t translate it to game day, Cade looks ready to play NOW and be really really good. But DJ looks like the guy we thought we were getting when we recruited him, should be a fun spring and fall camp and season!
