At what point do the coaches decide we either learn how to block the WR screen plays or we just quit running them.
I am curious to hear from current or former Coaches as to the purpose of continuing to run plays that don’t work.

I do agree. It's real odd to me that other teams seem to be able to make good plays of them. Us, hardly ever! Almost NEVER.

Our screen plays to the sidelines rarely work

The ball takes way too long to get there. That's a long time for a WR to block.
I do like a screen play in the middle or off one side of the line though.

I would almost rather see us run the old triple option as throw the bubble screen. Almost.

The triple option is 4 yards and a cloud of dust.

Like Danny said 3 plays at 4 yards is a 1st down.

3 screen plays and we would have 4th and 15.

And when you pass the ball, three things can happen, and two of them are bad.

Same with running the ball! Tackled for no gain or fumble, or run for the needed

Love Clemson to no end but we are and have been the worst team college or pro that I have ever seen at running a screen pass. It’s really hard to wrap your mind around.
Either learn to run it or scrap it. Going to bring this up in my next call to Dabo’s call in show.
We should expect more out of this play with the kind of money he is being paid.
Did I get this right??😳😳

WR screens have been run by us for years with little success. Usually its a 2 yard gain or loss and the possibility of getting your WR injured. I would like for us to use more screens to the running back.

Every coach has 5-6 plays the call that never work but think “This time, YES this time it will work!” HTH

Screen plays have a higher probability of success when the other team doesn't have to worry about being beaten deep and can play 10-11 guys near the line of scrimmage. It's similar to the running game in that the defense can sell out against the run because they don't fear our offense beating them over the top.

Screen plays have to be run at the proper time to be successful. If the corner is in a rollup zone and is crashing the line of scrimmage, or even a tight press man defense, the play is doomed before it begins. Clemons OC's seem bound and determined to run WR screens when they are just not available. Couple that with the blocking deficiencies at WR and you got Zip. Against soft CB coverages, screens can be great plays. Against tight and/or rollup zone coverages, they are a prescription for a loss.

It doesn’t help have the safeties and linebacker play closer because they’re not worried about a deep throw. That said, our receivers can’t block for anything. That is the weakest position on the team IMO. Can’t block, can’t consistently catch (much less make contested catches), can’t get separation, and most importantly, can’t seem to stay healthy. I am surprised Grisham is still here

The QB should be able to audible when two DBs are up on the line playing man on the two WRs and a WR screen is called.

Bingo! That’s where we miss TL16 or DW4. They saw and processed what the defense was doing presnap at a much greater proficiency. Much more decisive about checking out of a DOA play call. Thing is it’s important for the QB to trust his playmakers. It’s also important for the OC to trust his QB. Without this important trust what got too often was Cade going rogue and trying to hero ball. That’s got to improve moreso than abandoning the plays in the playbook. I’m convinced that’s why the offense falls back to putting the offense on into the hands of the running backs. It imm

They don't work because our WRs block poorly. If we blocked better it would work better.
